It appears that votobooth is real, and maybe does actually pay out. But they own all the pictures. They can then sell them to anyone, for any purpose. That scares me a little, but it looks like an awesome way to gather the copyrights on a huge number of pictures, that are already seperated, categorized, and rated.
Once they have a big collection, then they can start selling them to agencies, and the photographer is out of the loop. Neat scam type idea that's perfectly legal.

uhm wrong! There is nowhere on their site that says anything like that.... and there is no place where photographers/artists give up any rights during the registration or submission process. If you are going to say something inflamatory - you'll need to back it up with some proof. I searched their site and their parent site thouroughly.

Here's the email I got back from my inquiry about TOS:
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for your email! I greatly appreciate your comments about our website. We just opened 3 weeks ago and have been feverishly fixing little bugs here and there. This is the first email I've received from someone who I dont know, so it was very enjoyable. :)
To address your concern, this site was made by artists for artists, so we know all the concerns that artists have when submitting to a website. We are working on our TOS (another reason it is still invite only), but basically any art you submit to the site for a challenge or gallery you will stricty own and retain all the rights to. All that we ask is your permission to use your art on our site. We will be working closely with artists to make sure our TOS will be friendly, fair and transparent, and I would love to extend an invite to you to read over it once it is added and give me your feedback.
I would also greatly enjoy any feedback you have on the site. Things you'd like to see added, any confusion you had, etc.. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hear about Votobooth?

I was just about to ask about the TOS since I can`t find them anywere in the site... Anyway, I do find weird they started with prized challenges witout TOS... I mean, if you win, where and how will they pay you? Can you submit stuff you have entered in other competitions? Are you giving them the rights on the works submited? (that was answered already).. I don`t know, I may wait for the TOS before start submiting.
