Yay! I won a contest! Believe it or not I won a trip and a new Sony a100 alpha . The big question is: Do I try to replace my Nikon equipment with Sony stuff now or do I sell it?

01/13/2007 09:35:57 AM · #2
Sell it. Nikon rules. Or else just give me the Nikon :) ...since you won the Sony :)

With the lens that you already have, I would sale the Sony and buy a D200 body or some more lens.

Btw, congrats for winning that.

i would sell the sony. you seem to have a lot of nikon equipment and unless you're unhappy there's really no reason to switch.

I thought that might be the concensus. The thing that stinks is selling on ebay ...
any other ideas for selling? I know I probably can't sell it here.

Why not? Lots of things are sold here!

Why sell it? Perhaps you could give it to someone you know who would use it well, someone that doesn't already have a camera.

I'd sell the Sony and get more lenses or another Nikon. Sure, I know that wasn't one of the choices you offered but it looks to me like you know your Nikon quite well and know how to get the best out of it... I'd stick with that if I were you.

Ditto, I'd sell the sony. Be sure not to open & use it if you haven't already. Selling unused & unopened will fetch you a good 10-15% more.

Another way to go would be to try to find someone on line who will trade for Nikon equipment that you can add to your current system.
Congrats on the good fortune.

Honestly I'd Stick with Nikon but not a D70, Id Ditch the Sony and The D70... maybe do what the other guy said and buy a D200 Body.

I think that's the way to go. Hmmm... I wonder if any store would take it as a return ???

definately move up to the D200.
01/13/2007 11:38:14 AM · #14
Post it for sale here in the Buy/sell forum, and perhaps over at Fredmiranda. It *will* sell. I agree with the "stick with Nikon" comments. Why reinvest? If you can move to the D200, it will be a big step up. The D200 and the Alpha both share a very similar sensor, but the D200 is a superior camera in many ways.

I kinda sorta already have a lens on order ... anticipating that I would probably go this route I called a few places -- the 18-200 VR ... that's gonna be about the same price that i get for the Sony ... if not a bit more.

Good idea ... I wish non-paying members could see Buy/sell ... I bet many people see Fredmiranda's for sale stuff though.
Thanks.

Hey Tate! Congrats on winning. Was it a photo contest and if so, what photo did you enter? :)
01/13/2007 12:00:41 PM · #18
Getting the 18-200 VR is a great idea. You should be able to come out close to even on that deal.

Mind if I ask where the trip is to?

The trip is for anywhere in the US so my wife and I are going to Key West. I should get some good pics down there with my Sony ... I mean Nikon VR! ;]

Congratulations!

great picture, and congrats!!! enjoy your trip to the keys with your nikon. as for the sony, ebay and amazon are good options. you can usually get good prices on new items.

my 2c worth I have the Sony100 and am very happy with it, remember that Sony now have the Zeiss lenses,These lens are the best you will get and leave everything else for dead, minoltas "G" series which are equivelent to the Canon "L" series are also available> I sy ditch Nikon and go with the Sony Alpha.

This'l put the cat among the pigeons .!!!!!!
01/13/2007 02:03:54 PM · #23
Since the Sony has in-camera IS you may want to keep it to use for low light conditions. It could buy you a stop or two and the compatible Minolta lenses are reportedly very good. At the least it could provide you with more flexibility to your photographic arsenal. Selling it may not even get you that good of a price.
01/13/2007 09:33:46 PM · #24
I'd keep both. Nikon has great resolution. Rated number one by popular photography for image quality. Both have their pros and cons. Anyway, what does it matter if you have a few cameras? I have about 6, and I keep on adding more. Want to try a medium format camera next, digital of course.
01/14/2007 01:38:10 PM · #25
Thanks for the advice everyone! I really can't afford to keep both since i really "need" a good all-around (18-200 VR). I posted the Sony on Fredmiranda's site and it has had some views in just a couple of minutes. Hopefully it'lll sell for a fair price.
