Hello,
Can the picture be modified with Photoshop or does it need to be a "normal, clean" shot?
Thanks. |

The challenge rules applies to all challenges and this one is no exception. Pls read the rules again. Photoshop modification can mean anything, some are allowed, while some are strictly NOT. |

How the voting is going to be anonymous if I put my picture on the challenge? When people recognize me I will automatically get 1's (there are no "0" fortunately) !

Good point. I guess it's time to remove our profile photos! LOL
One suggestion, Pitsaman, how about taking a photo of our backsides. They all look the same so nobody's gonna know who's who! LOL |

People have put their names in photos without being DQ'ed, so I don't think it matters much. |

We are not afraid of DQs, it's actually about your friends finding out which photo you submitted, and votes you a 1 because they love you so much! LOL |

Just to clarify, we will never DQ a photo simply because it is not anonymous.

Well you couldn't very well do so in a self portrait challenge!
;)
But I do think it's worthwhile for the council to discuss how to handle incidents such as the one where someone has recently posted their current challenge entry in a forum thread, full size.

If I take a picture of me, can it represent both being off-centered (that's me) as well as a self portrait?
or
I could take a picture oe 'me', sqush it down and call it 'mini-me'

While you take your backside I will take a photo of my feet...Don't think anyone will recognize them.

Please bare my 'dumb' questions with me ;o)
- Self-portrait means your head has to be visible, right?
- Self-portrait means you have to photograph yourself without the help of another person (but the timer on the cam is allowed, right)? |

With my ideas so far, my photo will be anything but "normal" though it may be "clean!" |

NO. (IMO)

I almost always use the timer to avoid camera shake, so I HOPE that's allowed! |

Robin, I agree with David, you are beautiful! You have these smile lines on your face, and your eyebrows have this little swing to them, and I love the hair colour and you have a beautiful kinda "I don't want to quite smile" smile (I'm going by your profile pict). |

No, I don't think so. I've seen "portraits" which don't show the subject's face/head. I think the idea of a portrait is to communicate something essential about the subject. Excuse the sexist sterotypes, but an example I can think of right now are an old bricklayer or laundress--I'd maybe shoot a close-up of their hands, not their faces.
I'm not sure you'll see my face in this one either ....

I think if you are setting up/directing the shot, it's OK for someone to help you out. Some people don't have a timer/remote shutter trigger, or maybe don't have a tripod. Using a friend as a programmable robot camera operator would be OK with me (personally), but they should, as much as possible, be restricted from creative input. |

No freakin' way is anybody going to see my face or body as is. That's one of the reasons I like TAKING pictures, keeps me on the right side of the camera! Isolated body parts, maybe, but doubtful. Extreme creativity must be employed to stay within the parameters of the challenge if I choose to accept this mission. |

If I remember right, one of the winners in the last Self Portrait challenge showed little face and was mostly of the hands. Great, now I have to go look. lol
EDIT: nope, it was the 4th place.
