I think it's only people who are trouble :-) You'll notice that Bob and I have our names in blue, means we're angels, right bmartuch? |
I certainly can't argue with that. Maybe I should take back what I said about nikonjeb "Kicking Ass" or I might go gray! |

I've been having the same problem. If you do a reverse, you can see it at the front but not the back. |

timfythetoo made me look at my scores. He's evil.
I have a 5.3 in Procrastination, a 5.1 in Song Titles (though at least two people got a kick out of it) and a 6.1 in Best of. I can live with those. I did turn scores back off, though. Life is simply so much better that way. |

I Agree. I've been much more relaxed about my scores when I've left them off. Even if I leave them off for half the voting period at least they have normally settled down by then. |

It's kinda fun to leave 'em off until voting is over. You can pretty much judge by the number of comments you get and what they say whether or not it'd be worth watching. If you leave scores off 'til it's over, it's only one number, not a meandering bunch of numbers, and it won't change any more after that either. :-) |

I've done that with one shot so far. I think. |

Ahh, I'd love to be a Ms. 5 something.
Well, not so much a Ms. because that would be odd, but you get the idea. |

Ain't a thing wrong with 5-something. I was thinking of changing my username to FivepointThree at one time. Still may.
And Mary, you don't know the half of Sir Thomas the Terrible, Holy Terror Cat from Hell. I love the durn guy dearly but he really does like to assert his personality from time to time. I was sitting here trying to quietly vote on Procrastination (not DPC's best all time challenge, I must say, but a lot of VERY funny entries) while eating a piece of Key Lime Pie and he was doing his best to get to that pie. He'd prance in front of the monitor, attempting to distract, or better yet, get me to try to move him, thereby taking one hand away from the plate and hopefully dropping the pie. Then he tried to get in my lap by climbing (with claws) up the leg of my jeans. That failed, so he got on the back of the chair, and proceeded to stand on my shoulder and reach a paw over to try to grab the plate.
All this after getting my attention in the first place by knocking down a few things (a perennial favorite) and scratching the furniture.
He's a dear.
Key Lime Pie. Yes, I'm in Germany. I do not believe Key Lime Pie is a common item here, but they carry it at the commissary - two slices per box in the freezer section. It says you should allow it to thaw. So I allow it to thaw for the amount of time it takes to get it from the freezer to the plate and that seems to be just the right amount of time.
And that's neither here nor there, and certainly not related to photography, but it's either sit here and play on the computer or clean the living room... |

I love your daily life stories, Deb. :) Keep 'em coming!
Meanwhile, it looks like I won't be hitting the update button on Best of 2006 too often. I thought this had a shot of topping my best score ever and instead it'll struggle just to break 6. The idea that it's only scoring a little better than my Song Title entry is just bizarre to me.
So goes life at DPC ...

I know what you mean about the way things score. My 12 days and fences just blow my mind. I know neither are great but my fence got a 5.15 which is about what i expected and the 12 days got a 4.97 just .18 apart. The 12 days is a true sucker and i dont see how they scored that close. I guess i still dont understand what the voters are looking for. |

Remember though people may be voting more harshly, because this is, after all, meant to be people's best shots of the entire year. Also those people that vote according to sliding scales may have trouble adjusting because of the high number of entries. |

Not too bizarre, really. Best of is a very hard challenge - Song Title, though when I glanced through the thumbs after it opened seems pretty good, isn't at the same level. Know what I mean?
And you guys totally rock. I could sit here and type stories all night... But eventually your eyes will glaze over and you'll start wondering just exactly what the heck you were doing sitting in that chair for so long. Your butt will go numb. It happens.
Which reminds me, in college, we had a hypnotist come put on a show. He told the 20 or so folks he had on stage a whole bunch of silly things, but the silliest of all was when he told them that on the count of three, thier butts would fall off. Well they all fell out of their chairs and onto their hands and knees. The subconscious mind apparently figures with no butt, you can't sit, or stand.
THEN he told them that a) they could only move in slow motion, and b) their butts were coming back, but were approaching at over 100 MPH! Think about it for a minute.... Maybe you had to be there, but it was absofriggin'lutely hysterical.
One last tidbit for the evening: if you ever come to Germany, the One thing you really, really need is a pair of good, comfortable walking shoes. A lot of walking is done here. Today I discovered the second thing - when traveling and you decide to make a pit stop at the rest area (don't know what it's called in German) on the autobahn, bring your own toilet paper. :-) |

Oh. One more thing. I was having a hard time finding clothes to buy here. I owned like three pair of jeans and one pair of dress pants when I moved here - one didn't wear a lot of pants in Texas. It's not that we all ran around naked or anything, it's just that it never got cool enough to actually wear pants. (We wore shorts.)
So I get here and it's a darn bit chillier. I want pants. I go looking to buy pants. The sizes are all weird. There are no 6-8-10 sizes - there are 36-38-40 etc and some really weird ones in the 80s and 90s, but no matter where I looked, nearly everything was a size 44. Which for me was a bit too big.
Mom to the rescue! I send her shopping in California. She heads to the store she's always gone to, but it's changed hands and no longer carries the stuff she used to be able to get there. Mom is very resourceful. She gets online, finds the brand name of pants I want on sale, and orders me three pair - two pairs of dress pants and a pair of boot cut jeans. She orders this particular brand name because I happen to know what size in that brand fits.
I get my three pairs of pants - all gorgeous, all fit! Well, the jeans fit, but they're those jeans that ride, umm, low. Very low. Bear in mind I am no spring chicken. I left spring chickenhood a long time ago and should be settling into matronly in the near future. And here I am running around in jeans that very nearly expose cleavage. I'm thinking if I'm gonna do that, I should probably get a tattoo on my lower back.
And if I do THAT, I'll definitely take a picture.
