Bernard, you crack me up. :-)
To the game clue seekers - if you also happen to have a camera, this is one of the best websites around. Most folks will see drastic improvement in their photography after they submit to a challenge or two. Then there are some who simply like pounding their head against brick walls because, well... I don't know, but I should since I fall into that category.
Have fun, good luck with the game. From what I've read I'd not get past the first level. |

I think that in any given set of people a certain percentage will be interested in photography. If it was half the threads I might be wondering, but is there really any harm being done?
As I see it
disadvantages
a) some of DCP server space is being taken up by a text thread of non-photography nature
b) People are finding the site who are not interested in photography.
Netural
a) The site allows all sorts of non-photography threads (normally in rant) but sometimes elsewhere. So presumable the amount of server space being hit is minimal and not a concern.
Positive
a) New people are finding the site whose initual interest might not have been photography but are signing up. These people are ones who have money and time on their hands (at least enough to game play) and are willing to read and post comments to the site.
b) Presumable given the general popularily of photography a certain number of people will stay for the photography or pass on our site for the photography interst.
c) Increased sales (well I can hope) of the for sale images, for those who are not budding photographers are more likely not less (I am guessing) to buy the works for sale here.
d) More external links means a higher placement for dpc in the search engines (ie free advertising).
From what I can see, the positives far outway the dis-advantages. Besides my photos have a lot better chance at being able to impress a non-photographer then a regular DPCer :-)

lol WE already have a ton of threads that are not photogaphy related...and the members who do submit are the guiltiest of posting to threads about things that have nothing to do with photography :) so this oen doesnt count :)

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I hated those Barney-esque sing-along threads that were very popular for a while and I've been ignoring that Ouverture Facile thread as well as it doesn't appeal to me. However, those have as much of a right to exist at DPC as any other non-photography related thread.
As has been mentioned, the ignore button is available plus you always have the option of clicking the "Community" menu header link to get a much longer list of active threads if the ones on the front page don't appeal to you. |

I didn't even have an interest in photography until i stumbled apon a link to this place while searching for something else, took me awhile to join up yes, but im glad i did. I agree that registering only to read a cheat thread is lame, but it is possible that they may develope an interest in photography at some point, I did. |

Hello,
I'm the one who started that thread. I've been playing the original French version for over a year (I reached lvl 49 after thinking about it for 3 months) and wanted to advertise it.
The issue of who participates in that thread and where they come from (online-wise) doesn't matter to me. However I'm very sad about what has become of the thread. It is precisely the kind of site/thread which is condemned by the creators of oF, and led to the abolition of the Hall of Fame, in want of a better term.

I think it is about cheating. There is a fair number of straightaway solutions. If you want help/hints, use the official OF forum. It's moderated and they make sure hints stay hints and don't become solutions.

| For everyone whining that threads should only be photography related-ever noticed this one ISNT. Its like a hen house in here. Im preparing to get my MFA in photo, and i stumbled upon this site cause i was trying to cheat on OF. Didnt really feel like paying a membership fee at the time, but perhaps if i want to enter some challenges i will. Its attracting more traffic to your site. Chiiiiiilllllllll.... |
