Is anyone else nervous to see the scores tomorrow for Best of 2006? I mean, it would really suck to get a 4.xxx (or worse) in this challenge. It's also going to be hard to vote, as I don't really want anyone else to face something like that, either...

I was thinking the same thing.

I think, and I may be going out on a limb here, so don't yell at me, but I'm pretty sure anyway, that it means, in the broadest sense, that

wait for it

470 more people have looked at the parrot than the blurry train shot.

*ducks quickly*

Okay, seriously, brown winners often get lots of views, as do DQd shots. My DQ has about the 10th or 11 most views of my 51 entries so far, even accounting for the fact that view counts on DQs combine those during and after the challenge (I think it had about 375 before the DQ).

Maybe there is a link to the photo somewhere out in cyberspace.

ok, i'm in best of. i had no idea which one to go for, so i printed out a contact sheet showing the ones i liked the most, cut it up, and drew one out of the hat.

highly scientific.

oddly enough, it's one that was in my 'folio (i've hidden it for now). so we'll see how it goes.

Haven't gotten any in-depth comments on my Song Titles entry yet. Six comments so far, two are positive and two... well the first one I was able to shrug off but with the addition of another yucky comment they make me feel like crying.

Although I do find one of the yucky ones amazingly, beautifully ironic... so hopefully that'll keep me from actually crying. Heh.

Kelly: do you like the images that usually score highly? Do you want to shoot shots like those? I've looked at a lot of your images, and you seem to have a style and a preference for shots that look nothing like typical DPC high scorers. Occasionally they intersect like in the Pink Floyd Challenge.

I think you have quite a bit of creativity and talent, but in directions different from the average DPC voter's preference. In which case, I hope you take heart in your own vision and really don't worry about the score.

Now, if you do want to emulate those shots, let us know, and we can all help you move in that direction.

Well thank you... I find all of that very sweet. :-)
I honestly do NOT care what the photo is scoring.. It's scoring a 4 something and I knew that's where it would be. I wouldn't care if I was scoring a TWO if I got comments that were at least a BIT constructive in their criticism.

As far as the offer of helping emulate things... that's a great offer and although I do not want to really take my whole style in a different direction there *are* some techniques I'd like to learn/improve and if I get my thoughts together and figure out what I want to learn next and if I have some time I might ask and I'm rambling now blurbble!

Have I mentioned PhotoSig before? //www.photosig.com

Try it out. I think you'll find a much broader range of opinion there. I don't mean leave DPC, just see whether you get helpful criticism there.

Aw thanks posthumous.
*nod* I might try photosig.. I sorta feel like I have time for only one photo site at the moment... if my frustration doesn't go away quickly (it's gotten much better since posting here actually) I will definitely look into it.

Thanks all. :-)

I'm in best of! Good luck Kivet!

Also... hehe, I just signed up for photosig. I convinced myself that my "only time for one" argument didn't really work so well. :-)

Ok, I've looked over all of the best of entries. And they all suck, so we're in good company. :)

My first vote is 4. I'm quite certain it won't hold there, but I'm left wondering whether I'm looking at the same picture this person was. No comment, of course.

My Best Of 2006 is maybe not one of my best, but it's my all time favorite and the pic that made me serious about photography.

G'Night, all!

Hm. //www.photosig.com/articles/1556/article makes me feel better too, hehe! Should be required reading for DPCers :-D

That's a pretty good definition of "Best of" if you ask me.

I don't have scores on, but I can check comments and I have one comment on my "Best of" - it's a "10 from me!" comment from someone who not only remembers the shot but actually remembers it's mine. At this point, I'm declaring my "Best of" a resounding, complete success. :-)
