It's moving up a bit. 5 of the 6 comments are really positive, so the low score is still a bit of a mystery.

Brutal voters! I cannot believe how hard it is to get a 5 around here.

Especially confusing is the fact that some of my commenting voters declare they are gonna give me a 9!

Great comments. What is entertaining is that right after one person complains about an issue with my image it is followed by someone who likes that same thing. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

STILL no comments. I wonder why?
01/11/2007 12:23:11 PM · #332
There are almost 500 entries. Many people just want to get votes in and taking time to comment is hard with that many entries. In addition, your entry appears to be in the middle (5.4 score) and many people only comment on those that are great and those that stink

Of the 500 entries, probably 350 of my votes fall between 4-6. I dont really have time to go through and make specific comments there. After all, if they stood out enough for me to comment on, i probably would have ranked them above or below that range...

And yet these are the images that NEED commenting on. You don't have to comment on all 350. Pick every second or third or forth one.

Thats still like, 100 comments! Yikes!

I do agree though. Average photos get the short end of the stick around here...

There are two camps regarding comments. a) People who earnestly want to improve and want comments. b) People who say that want comments only if it makes them feel good and fits in their beliefs of how wonderful their image is.

The second group includes folks who can be spiteful and immature. It gets tiring after a while getting brow beat for offering your opinion, therefor folks stop trying.

Like most of you I am getting a full point lower than what I expected:

While I am disappointed in the score, I did get a really helpful and thoughtful comment from witam. So there are some people out there trying to leave constructive comments and there is still five days to go. Some people will probably go back and leave comments when they finish voting, which could take quite some time. Hopefully, they'll bump up some of our scores while they are at it, lol. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who is disappointed about a low score; it makes me feel a little better about my own.

hmmm....5 comments....4 of the 5 comments say the same exact thing....damn commentors don't know what they are talking about haha. I guess i should assume that they are right. Even though, that still doesn't explain the low score if that is the only thing wrong with it.

Okay.. you think there are alot in this challenge??? Anyone look at the best of 2006 Challenge?? there are already 574 entries ! ! ! ! ! Yikes. I entered a meaningful photo, that is probably a HUGE mistake ! ! !

Makes me nervous too after this particular challenge, but it's a member only challenge which tends to be kinder. It's not unusual for Best of/Freestudies to hit 800. I'm wavering on whether I want to pull my entry or not. I guess I leave it in.

Weee-eell this seems to sum up the voting standards of the current voters: got a comment saying something like this only a few moments ago:

love this shot, very expressive, i just think it lacks contrast. Seems sooo grey to me, but again, great shot. 5

If it's a "great shot", I wonder what you have to produce for this voter to get a 10 or what sins you must have committed to get a 1...?

So take heart..all those with a 5 average, you're doing GREAT it would seem !!!

Well, as I see it (and I'm not the commenter):

The shot is great and the picture could have been great - but the post processing wasn't very good... Could that be what he/she meant?

It's not uncommon that I see a picture that I really like - or would have liked if the PP had been better.
