Well ... I read somewhere here I think ... that you COULD request a DQ yourself if you realize after you have entered a challenge that you have broken the editing rules. (I cannot find it now.)

But ... I don't think that you will be able to request and have your entry DQ'd for any OTHER reason including DNMC or "I realized my photo sucks" or any other such reason.

Am I wrong?

Yes, you are wrong. You don't need a reason. But, like I just posted there can be consequences. Read the FAQ's.

Hehe... I know which one youre talkin bout. I thought it was brilliant, but probably too brilliant for its own good. It clearly meets 100% of the challenge criteria. I hope it does quite well, in a challenge of 500 entries, its nice to see a couple thinking-out-of-box entries.

I believe that was the lovely gentleman a bit back who mentioned that he was getting ALL these lovely comments about his ERROR.

No, its someone else. One gentleman made a mistake and is upset, the other is rather amused that he managed to "out-clever" himself.

I cannot find it ... could you direct me to the url of the FAQ that deals with this issue please?

Don't give up Krystle! Sometimes you'll connect with the viewers, and sometimes you won't. In the mean time, have fun and keep shooting!

Thanks for the encouragement, and it is looking up a bit :)

I CERTAINLY hope that it is NOT the one that gathered so many negative comments ... and was the NOT the one done by the ACCIDENT of not understanding the challenge criteria!

Well, it has gone down a bit from the first two 6 votes. Reading this thread I wonder if I'm actually doing ok, or if the high score people are not talking. :)

At least I got a favorite out of it!

Krystle posted ...

"the people hate me..."

Some photos click with some viewers and some don't. National Geographic prints photos that some people think are not SO special.

Please never confuse the voting viewers here that don't like this particular photograph with people that might adore you for your talent on another photo.

Not to mention ... everyone here is wailing about low scores ... I dunno what you have to do to get above a 5.0 here ... but I guess I will see in the results.

Get it?

I don't understand what speaking a given language has to do with being able to pick up a camera and taking super photos!

Don't forget, there are quite a few regulars that never have and never will post their scores. I'd be willing to bet the top 10 will have some pretty good scores.

This is quite embarrassing, but I can no longer find it. I know it was there, because I read it before doing it myself. This was quite a few months ago. Contact an SC member and maybe they can point you in the right direction. I did find a thread about rewriting the FAQ's in September so maybe it got left off somehow.

Error sorry.

quote=hoffy] Well, I am probably one of those newbies who are flooding YOUR competition....Yep I'm sure that we will all dissappear after a while.

I have to say, my score is not the best (hovering around the 5's) & yep, its probably one of the so called soft focused snap shots (hmmm, I had a choice...go to my studio (yep, we all have studios) or get out and about with my subject & take some photo's), but I came here to learn, pick up some pointers & improve.

The feeling I am getting now (mainly from this thread. The comments I received were helpful & constructive) is that us Newbies may not necessarily be welcome here. Sure, in 2 months entries will probably half, but please, there maybe some that want to learn & hang around. Dont tar us all with the same brush. [/quote]

Found it.

From the Advanced rules up to December 2005:
You may request removal of your own photo, for any reason, if:
# You make the request during the voting period. Requests made after the close of voting typically will not be considered.
# There has been no rules violation and you have not been asked to submit proof on your entry. If you report a rules violation on your own entry or request removal after receiving a proof request, the request will be treated as a normal disqualification.
# None of your last 25 submissions have been disqualified or removed. Remember that subsequent DQs within the next 25 submissions may incur a penalty as set forth below.

None of this is in the new ruleset, but it does list the DQ penalties still. So, we have to pass this one off to the SC IMHO. Can we still request a self-DQ?

Edit: Oops. From the new Ruleset:
You may: request removal of your own entry during the voting period IF none of your last 25 entries were disqualified or removed, and no rules were violated.

"You may: request removal of your own entry during the voting period IF none of your last 25 entries were disqualified or removed, and no rules were violated."

I don't understand! ... You may request removal of your entry because you had a bad day ... but if you broke the rules and realized it after entering your photo you may NOT?

What if you accidentally violated the rules and then request your own DQ on grounds of honesty?

What am I missing here, please?

How can there be 129views and 91 votes and yet no comments, I don't understand. This is one picture that I was sure would get it's share of comments. At least I'm pulling a five!

Might want to pontificate about it in a different thread.

Yeah well ... keep in mind that there are only a FEW short of 500! entries in this challenge! Voters are weary, maybe? I would expect only exceptionally bad or good photos to get comments. I got 4 good and 4 bad and still dont have a 5. Go figure.

From the horse's mouth in response to your question ...

If you realize you broke a rule, and report it, we'll almost always grant a self-DQ. What we don't allow is for someone else (not the photog) to question a shot, us to request proof, and *then* for
the photog to request a self-DQ. At that point it is DQ as normal. Hope that clears up why the
policy is written like that.

kirbic

So weird. It was 4.2*** yesterday, it climbed up overnight, I actually saw it above 5, and about 15 votes later it's 4.8785. It would probably do brilliantly in a self-portrait challenge... ;-)
