I was updating my DPC Stats spreadsheet (Thanks gooc). to show recently completed challenges and noticed that my Avg Vote Received posted in my user profile is higher than what I've calculated in excel. I thought there might be an error in my spreadsheet so I pulled all my scores and recalculated them in a new worksheet with a new formula again with the same results. On the DPC my Avg Vote Received is 5.5731, but my calculations show a 5.5639. It couldn't be that the DPC takes it to a higher decimal place as that couldn't change it that much, and it couldn’t be that the latest challenges weren't included as I tried it without them and it went the opposite direction. I was just curious as to method & accuracy. |

Is your spreadsheet taking the simple average of all the final scores? If so, that's the problem. Each score will have a slightly different weight, because the number of votes is not the same. Your DPC average score is the average of all the individual votes you have ever received. The proper way to calculate it in a spreadsheet would be:
(X1*N1+X2*N2+X3*N3...)/Ntotal
Where X1 is the average score for challenge 1, and N1 is the number of votes received in challenge 1 and so on. Ntotal is your "total votes received." |

Oh that's the reason. I was just using =AVERAGE(F3:F103) and the F column is just the listing of each avg score of each challenge as posted in my profile. |

Figured that was it!
Say your average scores are in column F. Now look up the number of votes received for each, and put that number in column G. Now for each row (each challenge) let column H equal column F times column G. Now sum up the numbers in col. G. repeat for col. H. Divide the sum for col. G by the sum for col. H.
That will do it. |
