Just read these posts and I am seeing the same issue as some are describing here. I have olympus camera sp 500 uz with an olympus 1gig card. Bought them together as a package new. And the first time I used it, just now on the holidays, shooting some really important family shots, of family I havent seen in 10 years. And when I tried using a standard card reader I noticed there was only a quarter of the pix that I had taken. And when I put the card back in it, the camera said the memory card was empty! But this was a lie! Cause then when I installed the olympus software and used the USB direct to the camera the one quarter pix were again there again, but now there was four copies of every pix! I was able to copy them off ok. But I lost about 700 mb of pix! So what is olympus doing about this. I have several sony Digital cams as well canon and Ive never ever seen this. I got the olympus cause of the 10x zoom and larger form factor. But now im very afraid to use it. Ive never seen corruption like this. If olympus doesnt do something about this I will blog anti-olympus diatribes till my dieing day! This is inexcusable that they dont rev the firmware or address this somehow. What do I do? In the mean time folks - DONT BUY OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAS! This is so sad. My great aunt I will probably never see again and I lost those shots. Very sad. |

I have actually owned 3 oly's (C3030, C5050 and my Evolt) and all 3 are still operational and used. I too have the 1g XD card in my e-volt and have never had a single problem with it. I have also considered buying the M card cause it is cheaper here at my military store but when I saw that it wasn't for all cameras I decided it wasn't a risk I was willing to take.
It appears to me that the common problem seems to occur when using a card reader (not certain as it is hard to follow all the info). I don't use a card reader and I just drag and drop my images (no copy, paste) to where I need them. I know using the camera as a reader is slower, but since I've never lost an image it is a very mute point for me.
I hope you can get your problem figured out, sucks to have issues like that.
(p.s. Pleasantdreams...if you ever want to get rid of your "evil" 500 I will gladly take it off your hands, I love mine and I know at least one person that would like to own it too)
