Well, while not a very artistic form of photography, I'm trying to weasel into the RE photography business. Trying to market it to homeowners themselves. Agents don't pay - I think partly because the virtual tour companies have so de-valued the industry.
Well, the website is here: www.homesnapz.com
Anyone give me any feedback? Also, if anybody is in the Phoenix area and would like thier home done, for free, let me know! I need more gallery images!

Design looks very nice - clean, easy to read, easy to navigate. The camera and tripod on the front page feels slightly off to me because it bumps the rest over to the right (I realize I'm using a relatively small resolution, 1024)and also because it's so dark in contrast to everything else.
Rather than have a whole gallery dedicated to crap that you can find on MLS, you might consider having a sort of "before and after" type page...compare a shot of theirs to a shot of yours. Something about having a separate gallery is slightly off-putting (even if the pictures do suck).
There's some spelling/typo issues as well. Otherwise, very nicely done. Good luck with your new business! |

I would junk the camera picture - the site is about homes, so show some inside/outside shots of them instead.

Thanks. Spelling - oh crap. I usualy run everything through the checker, must have missed something.
I have been going back and forth on 'before and after' We tend to look at pictures first, read second. Everyway I tried to do a before and after grouping, at first glance, it looked like I was showing my work. That's why I ended up just having a MajorListingSuck page:)
Once I get more homes (my neighbor has volunteered) I'll add them in and probably do a slide show on the home page. Unfortunlatly my house is a mess (read:wife) and in a state of half done projects (read:me) so I can't use my house for gallery images.
That's interesting about the camera - yes, the site is about homes, but also the photography of homes. Maybe I guess I'll need to rethink this idea if people find it distracting. Of course, Robs, are you just saying that cause it's a Nikon and not a Canon :)

Cut off the empty space at the top. It pushes your photo of the home too far down. That should be one of the first things we see. Change your tag to .
Edit: You can get rid of the entire first table as well. All it does is hold another table. Be sure to remove the closing tags for it as well.

Nah if I meant that religious war, I would have said tinker toy :-)) I think the camera just has too much emphasis and the site does not register as basically real estate service - that first reaction is important for clients.
How about images of nice interiors/exteriors over-layed with that movie chunky camera view screen (you know the one, multi shaded circle in the middle with some lines around the edges) - just thinking off the top of my head but you know what I am getting at. |

how about using a picture of a home as a background and using the camera on a tripod in the foreground. this is a site about photographing real estate. |

Just a quick question about the shots on the MLS Sample page... are those your shots or from a previous cam/photog?
Reason I am asking as some seem to be quite pixelated. You are trying to sell photos of homes (for the web) you may want to clean em up (or if they are others work you may want to state that).

He's citing those as examples of BAD works done by inexperienced photogrpher/Real Estate Agents. |

Yes, you need to make that more obvious. I would consider putting the link below your examples. That would help the viewer read the text instead of just skipping it to see the pictures below. |

Also, even though you have a home link on every page (which is great by the way) it would be nice if you also linked the logo to your home page. Just remember to use border="0" on your image tag. |

Can you really use those MLS Photos? I would have thought that wouldn't be allowed given that you're using them in promo materials to sell your services. |

Wow, alot of feedback!
Man, I really thought the camera on the tripod was a good idea - I was using a 'visual' in that most (if not all) RE agents don't take the time to properly set up the shot, and also a subtle way to show off my equipement.
OK, I think the 'bad MLS pictures' are going. Even on thier own page, they can still be taken out of context. I'm sure most homeowners by now how sucky those photos can be anyways...
Oh, and the 'body' table is a container. It sets the widths and has the style for the outside border. It's just my style. I stack tables within a container table.
But, good point on the sample picture being beneath the fold. Once I get a few more images for a slide show, I'll re-arrange the index page, move that up and text below.
BTW, I'm a UI Designer/Interaction Designer by trade, so I'm used to having people pick apart my deisgns through usability testing (of course, the participants don't know it's my work) - it only makes the final design better!

If you want to keep the camera, what about something like this?

This is a good idea but I think you can find a better place for it. Perhaps on one of the other pages.
Edit: Or...put it in the bottom right corner of the home page.

OK, based on the feedback here, I re-arranged the home page a bit.
