I am working with paint shop pro XI. I have a photo I would like to put a dark edge around. I found a photo frame that is the shape I would like, but I can not seem to get it in anything but transparent.
The message in the box say's.
The picture frame does not contain an alpha channel defining the transparent areas to fill with color.
I have read the help file and it say's to uncheck the keep transparent box. It is not checked and I can not check it eather.
I bet this is really simple, but I sure can not get it.
Any psp users out there that can help me?
Thanks..

I now wonder if I am going about this all wrong.
I see on the brush tool I can set it from normal to burn and then brush a burnt end around the photo.
Anything I do with the brush tool sure looks like crap, but I think that is how I may have to go about getting the look I want.
Here is the before photo.
Here is the after.
Seems like a lot of nothing in the corners of the photo.
The top right corner is not to bad, but the others do not look good to me.

Are you referring to a border, or just burning the edges to make them darker and sort of "close in" the photo?
A good trick for dodging and burning - especially in PSP - is to create a blank layer, set the blend mode of that layer to "Soft Light" and then paint black over the area you want darker and white over the areas you want brighter. It works much better in my experience than the dodge and burn "Retouch" tool. I'm just not sure if that's what you are after.
If you are trying to do a vignette of some sort, you're going to want to create a selection, make a new mask, etc. I can walk you through THAT if that's what you want to do.

Apply the frame you show in the first example to a new, empty layer. Then inverst that layer. The preset frame is white, you want a black one, I assume.

John - Have you tried to select "Frame the current layer", instead of "Frame the current canvas"?
I use PSP X and was able to use pretty much the same photo frame you're looking to use. I applied it to various images to create this collage for my wife.
edit to temp hide the image...sorry.

| Try using the fill color tool and fill the frame layer with any color you want then change the opacity if you like |

I did try that before posting and it just did not have the look I was going for, what ever look that is. :)
Everyone has given me many more things to try, thanks!
Will work on it some more and see how it goes. |

| Just as CeeDeez suggested. But you can not only fill the frame layer with a solid color but gradients, textures, ect ect in varying opacities. |
