Part of being professional is being able to get the shot, no matter what. Part of that is using the most reliable equipment, having spares etc.

This is what i wanted to point out. In some threads sometimes some photographers complained that their camera was not allowed inside just because it looks professional, where as other people were allowed because they had fancy looking camera.

If I were a professional, apart from a tool that does my job i would have bought the camera that can camouflage in the surroundings for the simple reason that i can take better pictures without making people aware of it.
for this reason, if silver looks less professional I would prefer it.

I agree, but the impression suggests black. As per the question of OP. People who do photos don't care, the shot is the same, but the impression is what is seen.

Black camera & tripod looks right. Silver looks cheaper. Who cares really as long the shot is good, but impressions count.

If they made cameras in different colours, I'd get a red one regardless of what anyone says about how much of a photographer I am for it.

Edit: If they made "NIKONs" in .....

.

If you have a silver camera, they make "Silver-Body-To-Black-Body" conversion kits. Here's one for a Canon Rebel XTi 400D.

That's exactly what people said when the first 300D Rebel came out. Only gray body.

If you are gonna paint the thing, then at least put some red flames on it :-)

I'd rather do pinstripping.

how about a gold Nikon?

funny there are were two types of a Nikon 45mmP lens made one black one silver
the silver would typically go for as much as 100$ less than the black
(I'm looking for a cheap one ;)

hehe, if that were the case I'd have a hunter green one.

Okay so it is more of an "impression" thing.

So it's safe to say I'm not a professional since I don't see it that way? lol

This has been very iteresting and insightful.

Oh and I love looking at old cameras. A pro friend of ours collects antique cameras, he showed me his collection last time I was over there, amazing!

they make those in silver also:
//www.leica-camera.us/photography/m_system/
but I guess that wouldn't be a "pro" camera ;-)

just read the silver tripod reply lol I am SOOOOOO not a pro lol. I have a silver tripod that was built back in the early 80's that a friend gave me for my birthday this past summer.

Sometimes my camera gets really hot on a bright summer day, soaking up the rays of the hot sun, and I wish I had a silver camera. I don't know if the silver stays any cooler, but theoretically it seems like it should.

Silver = schmilver.

I always have huge respect for anyone carrying around a large format gig.

I saw one chap making an image of the terracotta warriors in Xian doing just that: I was afraid to use my tripod because of all the "no photo" signs, but he was using a full wooden tripod, cape over the head large format camera. He looked like he was part of a tour group (by all the fed up expressions of the people around him who were obviously used to him stopping for "just one more 2 minute exposure").

Large Format = instant respect.

I think it more depends on what you care about your clients thinking.

Though I have to say I am a silver camera bigot. Mostly since Canon is the only on to practice this sacrelidge. :P
