If you are in or near Toronto, pay a visit to the Distillery district and drop by the Thompson Landry Gallery. There, numerous artists are showcased (and the Distillery has many galleries) but one in particular was interesting. Nicolas Ruel takes wonderful photographs, but takes them a step further by printing on sheets of stainless steel. The effect is amazing, giving the shots a sheen and reflectivity that is quite unique.

Beautiful. As an aside, don't attempt to take any photographs inside any of the galleries at the Distillery district. It might seem like a no-brainer to avoid doing this, but my cousin, a photographer, tried to take some photos of lighted glassware, and was less than politely shown off the grounds. :) |

I would imagine the artists didn't want unsolicited photography of their work. |

Yeah...they have signs that ask that viewers do not photograph inside the galleries out of respect to the artists.
Anyway, if you can make it to the gallery to see the stainless steel prints, it is worth it. These are prints that must be seen in person since the light in the room, the angle you see the work, and the time of day all affect the look.
Oh, and make sure to stop by the chocolate shop and get some of the Mayan hot chocolate. Worth the steep price tag.
