In the quest to continually improve my photography, I am officially offering for you all to tear these photos to shreds! Tell me what I did right, and what I did wrong. I want to hear it all!
I originally took these for the B&W portrait challenge, but I've made so many changes, I don't remember them all to write them down. Some of it may not even be legal. So, have fun with these self-portraits! I'm including the originals plus the edits.
Thanks!

personally I'd go High Key with them to make them pop a bit more like this:
On the first one I think I like the sepia look better but then I'm not a huge fan of selective color.
There's a good high key tutorial here. |

I think your favorite is my favorite too! The very unusual cropping is very stunning in its difference ...
If I knew how to do a lot better than this, then I would be winning ribbons on a regular basis ...
I just wanted to say I LOVED that first image and congratulations and thank you for sharing and that other knowledgeable photographers probably will give you advice way over my head as I stand now.
P.S. Thanks Mega for the tutorial on high key link.

Cool with the high key. Thanks. Do you think I was ok in keeping it out of the challenge, or did I just cheat myself out of a good high score?

I think they are interesting shots. It's hard to say how they'd have done and technically we shouldn't really be discussing them until entry and voting is over for that challenge. I've been out of challenge mode for a while and didn't realize there was a current B/W challenge going on.
It'd probably be best to bump this thread up again once all that is done. :) |

So we can't discuss them even though I didn't actually enter a challenge?

yep.
If your shots are similar to any of those entered or this sparked a huge discussion about how XYZ aspect of the pictures is ugly / awesome then technically it could sway the voters.
There has been much controversy and even a site poll on this very subject. I just missed that there was a challenge going on when I responded initially. |

Well, then, with that overwhelming vote of support, it seems my time here at DPC has been well worth it... :-\
