I had some free time at the end of the day today, so I went down to my local beach and took these photos.
They are not "challenge" material, by any stretch of the imagination, but I though some of you may enjoy them--especially if you are in the midst of winter and need a break from all the cold (or snow). Brrr! :-D

Hah... I actually lived a couple years in Redondo Beach, went to South High School in Torrance. These scenes are VERY familiar to me. Love the wave shot with the skyline behind it.

Nice. But what's winter? Thanks to global warming, it's a balmy 58 degrees at 1 am in upstate NY on January 6!

Thanks, Robert. That's particular image is facing north (actually, NW) with Long Beach in the background.

Pretty much had to be, didn't it? jejeje⢠Looking south, that would be the bluffs at Palos Verdes, assuming you were swung over that far right with the camera. It's funny how few people realize the classic beach towns in this area swing along on a more-or-less SE to NW arc. You can actually see the sun rise over the ocean at this time of year, right?

Very nice series of shots! I have never been to the coast. I seen the gulf of Mexico only once. I really like the pier shot. |

Thanks everyone for all your replies and comments! Specifically,
Bear_Music (Robert): Along these parts of Orange Co., at this time of year, the sun rises just in from the ocean along the coast. However, further up (like parts of Palos Verdes peninsula or Ventura Co.) the sun may appear to rise over the water because of the direction of their coast (E-W). So, do you ever make it back here to visit?
shannylee13 (Shanney): You're welcome! As usual, I knew you'd get a kick from those pics. Thanks for ALL your comments. I'm sure you'll agree...there is no place better to live than in southern California!
skylercall (Skyler): Yes, every so often we hear of someone becoming a "giant scab" when they slam into the pilings of the pier. It's common--many surfers "shoot-the-pier" by surfing under and through it.
hsteg (Harrison): I hope your sting gets better. :-)

Thanks. Every August there are a couple of big surfing contests. One is the "U.S. Open of Surfing" and is a big deal. The other is the "Ocean Pacific Professional Surfing Championship" (the OP Pro). In September, there was also the "QuikSilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships".
Huntington Beach is known as "Surf City, USA" and is home to the Surfing Hall of Fame.
