Yup I agree...trying to view thumbs from the challenge result, means I have to backspace or click on the challenge subject each time, what a pain! |

Totally agree!! It should be easier to move from pic to pic on a same portfolio, challenge, etc.

You're right, it certainly has been asked a number of times before.
Sadly, we (or at least I) have never seen any response to those requests.
I'm glad you brought it up, I guess if we beg often enough, someone might finally see the light that we would really like that function. |

It's so obvious to have "next" and "prev" buttons when viewing portfolios!!!
I can't believe the DPC administrators had never thought about it. Of course there will be a big technical problem in the software architecture of this site.
Hey Langdon!... Why don't you ask for help?... This place is full of software genius, and for sure they'll come with good and valid soluctions.

I seem to remember a poll that asked what should improve at the site, and improvements to the portfolio was the most requested. So I think they're aware. |

I think i'm going to direct this one to a site council member for a response. |

its really not that hard to do either...no offense by that
the hard part i guess is making the sequence of images different for everyone else and keep track of that....

The hard part is what does next mean?
Next photo in the series?
Next photo in the portfolio folder?
Next photo uploaded to the site?
Next photo entered into a challenge?
Next photo down the challenge results ranking?
Next photo down the favourites scale?
Next photo down the score scale for one user?
User-wide or site-wide?
A photo could be any number of the things above.
You'd have to have the next button context sensitive, so it knows what you were looking at before the photo, so it can then figure out what you expect from the next and prev buttons.
Maybe I'm putting barriers up where there don't need to be any, but I know Langdon has thought a lot about the feature and I'm sure it will come in one way or another with the portfolio upgrade which is currently in the works.

Yes, but software projects are like your children - I don't trust anybody else with mine. =)
Ben's point is exactly correct. Next and Prev is contextual, and therefore very tricky, and however it would be implemented, someone would probably think it was wrong.
You should be greatful that Next/Prev works during voting. It seems to not show you ones you've voted on before, the order is random and different for everybody, etc.
I'm not saying it can't be done - it's just not necessarily easy.

well it would depend on what you were observing...
if you were viewing the challenges, then the next would have to go to a random image in the challenge gallery but cant repeat...
if the image you were viewing was just uploaded to the site, then the next image can be a random image, just not an image in current challenge, or the currently viewing image....
php is a very powerful language, and using it this can easily be done whether its viewing your favorite photos, scored photos, challenge photos, user photos, or site wide.... its not hard to do
now im not sure if the site admins are apart of Challenging Technologies, which may hinder them editing the scripts. However, it is an option that i feel is plausable
