| Basically I'm very poor. I got some money for christmas towards a camera and I was all set on getting an XTi when i got the money. I really like the self dusting aspect of it and of course its technical aspects...But now im wondering if i should save a couple of dollars and just get the XT. I know the XT is strong and has slightly less tech specs about it but judging by the amount of users on this site who have it i know its good. I dont have the money right now to get one but Id really like some people with the cameras to help me decide. |

| Can't go wrong with the XT in my opinion. I don't see enough of a difference in the XT and the XTi to pay the extra money. Now if it had built in image stabilization my opinion might be different. |

i agree, i've messed around with the XTi and don't really see a huge difference. if you plan on printing larger posters than you an 8mp would allow, maybe go for the extra 2mp, but other than that it's about the same camera.
i love my xt :D |

You might also consider the new Nikon D50, and the Pentax K100.
Both are price/feature leaders over the Canon Rebel XT and much cheaper.
The K100 has built in IS/VR/AS (shake reduction) and sells for about $500 at Beach Camera.com; $550 with kit lens.
The K110 is similar to the K100 without shake reduction and costs about $100 less.
The D40 with Kit lens is about $600

| I had the Pentax K100 before my Rebel XT for about a week. The camera felt pretty good and took great pics, but I was very dissappointed with Pentax tech support when I told them I got my camera out of the box and the "Program Exposure" mode and "Aperture Priority" modes wouldn't work. I was gonna be without a camera for a month or longer if I sent it back to them. That was unacceptable for me so I just swapped it for the Canon Rebel XT. |

Rebel XTi for sale ... I think the owner is asking $625 which is a SMOKIN good deal ... and it's BNIB ...

I agree - the XTi has 2 more megapixels and the ultrasonic sensor cleaner, but that's all I've seen, so no envy for the XTi on my part. (Having acquired my 350D less than a year ago.)
A consideration for the Canon sensor, XT or XTi, is the forgiving nature with regards to minimal noise at higher ISO and longer exposures compared to others. (But, I do not know how the Pentax and D50 stack up regarding sensor noise.)
Hope that helps! |
