Okay, I'm way over-excited, but I got home & checked the email for our business...

We had a customer half-way across the country contact us about doing a product shoot for them!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not have the particulars just yet, but this has done SOOOOO much for my badly beaten self-esteem. It may not even turn out to be a large project, or amount to much money, but it is a feeling I can't possibly describe!

Okay, I am very very sorry to be here bragging, but there is a real reason to this posting:

If not for this wonderful, international, helpful community here at DPC, I would never have come even this far with photography - so a big "THANK YOU" to everyone here!!!!! DPC has helped so many of us grow in ways we've never imagined, and I am proud to be a member (I even try to recruit additional members every chance I get!)

Come to think of it - what about drumming up business? Maybe we could start a drive to increase traffic; I know that there are MANY of us with our own websites, or blogs, or myspaces, or ... Anyone wanna toss the idea around?

Regardless, thanks to EVERYONE!!!

Billy

Thanks for the support!!!

Somehow, this is even more exciting than our first portrait session lol.

(anyone care to comment on the whole promote-DPC thing?

Way to go Billy! I'm sure it's only the beginning of a huge success story. And yes, you couldn't have done it without us. ;-)

As far as driving more traffic to DPC (if that's what you meant) - I would decline to jump on that wagon. Not that I don't enjoy meeting new people here (although I don't), but the server tends to suffer from performance issues more often lately and if a high-powered Cray supercomputer (that is what DPC is hosted on, I believe) can't keep up with me, I get annoyed and have to go out and find things to burn. ;-)

Just kidding about not liking to meet new people - it's old people I don't like. ;-) Hahaha, just kidding again. Enough already.

Keep us posted about how the shoot goes. Feel free to PM for advice. (Not me, but someone who knows what they're doing).

Congrats Guys!! Exciting news and just the beginning. Fill us in with details when you can. How'd they find you, BTW?

Oh, and I like to keep this place my little secret (except for all the people I tell about it). But nobody usally listens to me anyways, so I don't worry about it too much. :)

Congratulations! This is SUCH an exciting opportunity for you! Half way across the country? Have you worked with them before? We need more details!

And I'm with jenesis on this one... this is my secret safe place of inspiration and magic.

Just a quick update...

Apparently the interest comes from a woman in Wisconsin, who runs an advertising company, and has somehow been contacted by a customer in my area (go figure). Company & website appear legit (ran a 'whois', called the phone number, etc.)

She responded this morning, saying she will talk with her customer more & then get back with me. Hey, 'everything happens for a reason', so maybe it will pan out for us!

BTW - ok, ok... I'll keep things on the down-low for now but, I warn ya, if we ever make it to the 'big leagues', we're blaming DPC!!!!! lol i wouldn't dare overload the servers by spreading the word (besides, this place might turn into a 'family site' if too many outsiders find out about it!)

Man, I am getting paranoid about my life going so well! Glenda even said that I could go to the European GTG by myself, if we couldn't afford for both of us to go. Don't think I'll go without her though...

Thanks for listening & the encouragement everyone!

Yes, DPC has all the traffic it can handle. God forbid it get Digged or Farked again. :-P

Congrats & good luck!

Whew!

Just got off the phone with potential client...

Seems she needs approx. 100-125 pics of this product (packages, packaging, boxes, etc.), and will be getting back with me later. Right now I am just a bundle of nerves!

Did I overprice the project? Overestimate the amount of time needed? Underbid what she was willing to pay? She even mentioned (possibly) travelling down here to do it herself, as she has relatives in the area. Question is, would i WANT to do the work for less than quoted? Then again, should I have priced the work based on the number of images & their use on her website? How do I draw up a contract? Oh crap!!! I have a lot to learn all of a sudden! AAAAAAHHH...

Feel free to leave advice while I search the threads!!!

Thx

Go Billy, It's your birthday. awesome news from an awesome person. I also better include an awesome wife.

About the promoting DPC thing I e-mailed Langdon about putting a banner on my website like I discussed with you. I have not heard anything as of yet but I did go ahead and put up the regular DPC banner. If he don't want me to use that then he just needs to ask. But I figure it is a great way to promote a site that has taught me tons.

Might not be in time for this project, but a good source for books on running a business and managing your intellectual property is Nolo Press -- you library may have some of them in the reference section.

And, of course, download your copyright forms and informatation from the US Copyright Office.
