Actually, one plowed through someone's house in NJ today (or last night). Let me find the link and I'll post it.

Edit to add link... UFO crashes into NJ house

Are you saying a "huge" meteor "struck" downtown Denver this morning? Google turns up nothing...

Damn!!! I was outside around 0620...just missed it. Without having the camera out and ready, those are tough to catch (shoot). :)

Not only does Denver get snow dumped on them in the worst way, but the "local" meteors are starting to act up!!! LOL ;)

It would be nice however to see a pic from someone in that area who have possibly caught it?

Freaking snow. It is dumping at my house. Everytime I think it is over, we get some more. December/January are not even are snowiest months! We have tons more snow in March for sure.

Isn̢۪t a meteor just the trail the meteoroid leaves and the part that reaches the earth called a meteorite?

Sorry, just being pedantic!!!

I think a space object is a "meteor". Once it enters the Earth's atmosphere it's termed a "meteorite". Friction with the atmosphere causes burning heat & light.

That's my un-Googled take on it anyway. But remember, I am a geologist. ;-)

When it's floating in interplanetary space, it's a meteoroid.
When it enters Earth's atmosphere and starts to glow, it's a meteor.
When it lands on the ground and you pick it up, it's a meteorite.

If you find a rock on the ground that is not from interplanetary space, it's

A meteorwrong.

Ba-da-bump.
