OK, it looks immenent that we are about to have some new rules around here. When it happens I think there should also be a "post-editting, full disclosure" rule; the voters should be privy to this info prior to voting on individual images.

That would be the cause of too many 'I don't like how much editing there is, I'm giving it a 1' votes, and the photographer would likely never know why (s)he got so many 1's.
I'm all for full disclosure in the details field - I wish more people would use it to share their setups/techniques already.

I don't think anything looks imminent. It is merely a discussion.
I don't see why the disclosure of information should be any different than it is. You would still either like/dislike a photo based on its content, effectiveness, and so forth .. just like now.
It would, however, be nice if more people volunteered information about their photograph and how they achieved the end result for learning purposes AFTER the challenge. |

Would it really make a difference?
I already do tons of levels and curves and hue/saturation tweaks and sharpening, and you don't even know it. Yet no one is saying that my shots look tripped out or like I'm trying to pull the wool over someone's eyes.
By your logic, even if we don't change the rules, we should disclose ALL of information pre-voting so that people can tell if you "deserve" what vote you get.
That doesn't make any sense. :)

One last suggestion for the site council/admins.: Put us out of our misery. This debate has gone on for too long. Let each member vote on the proposed rule amendments via an email poll. Then we can get back to what we came here to do in the first place. Enough bickering already.
Kindest regards,
Owen

Thanks, Owen. I wholeheartedly agree.

While I do agree the bickering is over the top at points (and initiated from ALL sides), I think the discussion is pretty productive at this point. (Of course, I haven't read the last 4 hours of posts, so maybe I'll change my mind shortly!)
As far as your original point, assuming that we're coming to a relatively limited set of proposed changes, I don't think there's any benefit to disclosing what you did to produce your final image, any more than there's a need to disclose the levels, curves, sharpening, hue, brightness, etc. that you can change now.
Now, if you could add to, alter or maybe even remove from the literal contents of the image, I might reconsider... |
