The song is very pointedly specific about the numbers, so I don't blame folks for feeling like a photo with an incorrect quantity of subject is a shoehorn. You can't fudge ten lords a'leaping - there must be ten or it is no longer part of the song. The entries that get the numbers right have a very clear edge, especially in a literal-minded community like DPC, and that should have been obvious to everyone even before entering.
Most challenges allow for a lot more interpretation than this one. The key for 12 Days of Christmas lies not in the interpretation, but in the technical strength and creativity of composition within a set of very specific constraints. It's a very narrow, very difficult subject. That's why the number of entries is so low, and that's why everyone who did enter is getting pummeled harder than usual. |
Looking strictly at the lyrics you are correct. However, the song is also an allegory for the christian faith. //www.novareinna.com/festive/twelve.html |

A lot of people know that and I actually accepted that as a valid interpretation. It's one of the very few directions to go with such a narrow subject. But you have to accept, too, that 99.9% of the world didn't know that and can only judge accordingly. I'm figuring that a lot of our membership wasn't even familiar with the song before the challenge came up, being from cultures where it isn't permanently etched into the Christmas consciousness. Surely you recognize that taking that direction is a huge risk if you're looking for a high score?

Unless I take a nose dive looks like I might even exceed my New Year goal for 2007 of getting a 6.8... |

I never said I was looking for, or expecting, a high score. I just made the observation that I was getting a high number of DNMC comments, as I was expecting, and the preceding exchange resulted. It wasn't even meant as a complaint. I'm actually very interested to see the finals stats as I think it's actually a very strong image and I'm curious how it was received when I ignore the DNMC 1, 2, and 3 votes. |

I reckon I may make the top ten - and I don't care if there are only 57 entries, a star is a star! I think I would like the voting to stop now.... I so, so want that star! |

Well, I'm gonna be right down there as usual. I am always challenging for that Top...damn, bottom spot!
Still, I thought it was an easy challenge, I could have done the same thing for all, cos that's what Xmas time is about.
Good Luck those of you at the top. Move over those at the bottom cos here I..

Just hovering there between 4.7 and 4.8. DNMC comments vs others running about even. |
