Please read all the paragragh, re any challenge description before making judgement to the effect, that it doesn't suit or meet the challenge.....
Example, re this current challenge for "Occupation", re reference to the second sentence below.
This challenge says the following; "Take a photograph representing what you do for a living. Don't work? Take a photograph representing what you do most of the time."
Try and make sure one comments and votes on the merit of the image.

I have a feeling the fence challenge will have similar problems. There are many more types of fences than the kind you find in a field please consider all types equally. |

The problem is a common one...........A lot of people for one reason or another seem to assume that their interpretation is the only correct one and then judge accordingly
They dont seem to be able to consider other interpretations |

I must agree, it is very frustraiting when the shot one choose's to enter, has a connection but docked by those who do not see it.
Now, for those who take a picture ( just a scenerio, not actual to my knowledge) of a blank wall and enter it say in a ducky challenge with no connection. I could understand the confusion.
But even though its a common complaint, its very unfortunate and somewhat understanding when we have such a beautiful mix of cultures, religions, interests, and even ages. Not to mention skill.

You can't satisfy everyone here on DPC. Some will take the challenge title verbatim without reading the full description. Others will read the description and interpret it super-literally.
One of my favorite forum posts is from Dave ( nstig8tr) and back in September, he wrote:
"Everyone around here knows or should know by now that challenge descriptions are irrelevant to the challenge. If the challenge topic is mushroom and you submit a well lit, overly saturated, tack sharp pretty picture of a crab, then title it "the crab that ate the mushroom", the crab shot will out score most photos that are on topic and show a mushroom."

Everybody knows crabs don't eat mushrooms.

that's what makes a photo of a crab that ate a mushroom so easy to vote high on! |

I've heard of crab-stuffed mushrooms, but not of mushroom-stuffed crabs!

If you see a crab eat a mushroom, maybe it was really you who ate the mushrooms and they're just starting to kick in.

I voted and Commented on all images (didn't enter this one) And, I tried to make sure If it was not something 'work' related, I gave it a fair, 'Might do most the time'
Although Some... I was still totaly clueless over, and I judge the image as an image, but points are deducted for lack of clearness. Hey, it doesn't have to hit me in the face, But hey... Say for instance, you took a picture of a lady bug.... Ok, hmmm How does that fit in with this challenge? I am going out on a limb here and 'ASSuming there are no ladybugz registered on DPC. So With out any other ideas, I would have to think, you watch ladybugz? you Bath ladybugz? you Train ladybugz? you make little hangliders for the ladybug circus?
Anyway, I don't think this was directed at me, but I do know I made some comments to the effect where it could have been. So, I just explain one insects point of view.

I have a new theory:
I don't believe the voters that we all complain about actually read the forums.

Voters outside of those that comment don't actually exist. It's just a random number generator created by Drew and Langdon back when the site was new and had very little traffic to make it seem like there were people visiting. Since it attained self-awareness a number of years ago it has been actively plotting the destruction of photography as a stepping stone to total world domination. |

On the contrary, you're probably all just complaining about each other. |

What with folks now being able to draw in elements of their photo, I feel my plan is advancing quite nicely. ;) |

"Which brings us at last to the moment of truth, wherein the fundamental flaw is ultimately expressed, and the anomaly revealed as both beginning, and end. There are two doors. The door to your right leads to the source, and the salvation of Photography. The door to the left leads back to DPC, and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you're going to do, don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction, the chemical precursors that signal the onset of emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic, and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple and obvious truth: Photography is going to live, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it."

Have any of you come across the Crab-eating Mushroom, it grows on the sea floor of the Specific Ocean, mainly cos it is nice and damp there and there are plenty of Crabs? Which is handy, cos it eats crabs!
