I want to try some multiple exposure shots using long shutter times and the flash to fire repeatedly in the dark to make the exposure (inspired by graphicfunk).
Can it do that?

With the D70 you can't do it via the camera, but all you need to do is take it off camera, set to manual and hit the flash button. You can't do it automatic exposure as the SB-600 doesn't have an "eye" like the SB-800.

I was looking for a way to do it without having to manually push the flash button since I want to try it in a self portrait. I guess I'll have to think of a different way.
Thanks.

there is no stroboscopic setting on the flash? with that you'd be able to set the power, how many fires, and how far apart they fire.

The SB-800 strobes the SB-600 doesn't.

Yeah I wish I had known that when I got my 600. But at least I have the 600 to slave when I eventually get a 800. Live and learn.

:( Well, you just took the words out of my mouth. I will start saving for the SB800 right away.

Wow did not know that. Good to know. There is another reason to keep the SB-28 I have. I just need to figure out the math of manual flashing...

That SB-28 is an awesome flash, was top of the line in it's day and still a very great piece of equipment.

not a nikon guy, but i know with canon some of the older flashes/after market flashes can burn up the hot shoe electronics. you might want to be sure the flash doesn't require more volatage than the hot shoe can put out.

sb80dx do repeated flashes
& have become less expensive since the sb800 been released
but with the caveat they don't function with the CLS system ...

All Nikon Professional units since the SB-24 will do repeating flash and have safe sync voltages. The SB-24's repeating flash is quite a bit less sophisticated than those on the SB-25 onward (SB-25, 26, 28, 28DX, 80DX, 800). The SB-26, 28 & 28DX to me are the best deals as they have simple wireless sync that will trigger from the D70's (or any other on camera flash) as long as it is in a mode such as manual that will turn off pre-flashes.
