Hi-ho,

Thought I'd share some almost seasonal cheer of my own..

I have borrowed this from a friend for a couple of months:

The woman who owns it dug out three rolls of expired (in 1989!) Kodak GPX 160 which I've had developed, but unfortuntely my film scanner adaptor has died (probably through dis-use, hasn't been out of the box for 4 years). I'm going to visit a friend tomorrow and get him to scan a couple for me.

I also picked up a few rolls of velvia 50, and provia 100 to shoot after I'd made sure it worked OK. I'll also pick up some Ilford 400 Delta which I can develop at a friends place..

For the curious, it's a Mamiya C33, made about 1968. I've got the 80/2.8 and 180/4.5 for it. It's in near perfect condition, and works very well. The viewfinder glass is a lot darker than I remember TLR's being, but heck, it's cool to use.

Anyway, for those of you who have never shot with a manual MF film camera because you're of the 'digital generation', you don't know what you're missing! And for those who still do, or used to, here's to some great times, and the smell of darkroom chemicals when I get the B&W.. :-)

Enjoy new years, and don't party too hard!

edit: can't type while drinking whisky!!! :-)

Oh yeah, I remember those days...I still have my fully manual Olympus OM-1 film camera. And, oh yeah, I used to develop B&W rolls of film in my apartment bathroom in college! I was too lazy to go to the university darkroom. Hmm...I wonder what happened to all my darkroom tools-of-the-trade?

However, I did have to trek over to campus to make prints. There wasn't enough room in my bathroom for making prints (nor was there enough cash in my pocket to have such equipment).

I teem with jealousy because I want to shoot with that camera! There was one like that sitting in the photo lab on campus that I got to look through, would have loved to put a roll of film through it.

Ah, I miss the smell of fixer. Can't wait to get back in the darkroom.

Once my friend was lucky to find a Mamiya C-330 in a small town. Shop keeper did not know the value and sold him Camera for like 50-60$

I just shipped my Pentax K1000 to a niece who wants to learn photography starting with the basics. My parents gave me it for my 18th birthday back in 1979. It's totally manual, save for a light meter (which you don't have to use).

I wish I still had my darkroom equipment, but that went the way of a yard sale back when the kids starting coming. I didn't want the chemicals mixing with toddlers.

It's a great way to learn the basics.

Mmmmmm! That makes me want to go shoot with my YashicaMat! The other day when I was in the used section at Jack's Camera in Muncie, I saw a lovely TLR for only about $150 or so, and I'll bet they ship if you ask them to -- so for anyone interested in medium format, I'd suggest trying the used section in your local camera shop or maybe check out Jack's Camera online!

'Urro,

If anyone is keen on trying a TLR you can still buy the seagull brand new for $140 US from B&H.. It's not the worlds best camera, but I imagine you can ebay one for half that to have a go, and catch the bug. ;-).

Cheers, Me.

I got myself a YashicaMat 124G a couple of years back. I don't use it as regularly as my DSLR or film SLR but it does get used. Mmmmm, medium format Provia. :)

I think I may have to break out my YashicaMat 124G again soon -- I've been getting the urge to shoot big, square lovely negatives lately!
