Two more macro agencies that are in the same league with Getty, Corbis and Alamy.
I applied to PhotoLibrary today - they require ~50 images emailed or sent on CD - response email says it could take a bit to get rejection or acceptance.
I also asked for submission information from Jupiter and hope to apply to them tomorrow. I'll let ya know how it goes.

I got the submission requirements and application from Jupiter images. I have applied. Both Jupiter and PhotoLibrary say it could take up to 4 weeks for approval (or lack of).

Anyone else going to try these guys out? They're quality macro-stock agencies with good reputations.

what kinds of images do they accept?
Are they exclusive?

Neither require exclusivity and both require low res jpgs to be emailed. PL asks for up to 50 images no larger than 100kb each and Jupiter asks for 10-20 images.

Both seem to have a large cross-section of types of photography for sale.

That why I haven't signed up. Maybe I should go get a 10mp point and shoot as they are getting cheaper.

I got the application from Jupiter and they ask for a website. Well, I don't have one. Does anyone know if that's absolutely necessary?

Not sure its a necessity, but you could throw together a quick one with smugmug or some other free-hosting site.

Sure I could do that, but what if they judge me by the quality of my site and if I was to make something quickly it probably wouldn't be too appealing :)

I haven't spoken to any of the photographers there, so can't say from anyone's experience...

PhotoLibrary was founded in 1967 - so that says something about their success (at least it does to me).

I'll search around to see if I can find some specific sales volume info.

I just checked PhotoLibrary's guidelines and this is what I don't understand

"File Size: Our standard size is 50mb at 300dpi, as this is what the majority of our clients require. We re-
scan or re-size when our clients require larger files"

"Interpolation / re-sizing / up-sizing: Digital images supplied should not be interpolated or re-sized. We
will do this in-house to maintain quality."

"Digital Camera File Size & Type: Only use professional digital cameras with high quality
interchangeable lenses capable of producing 30mb plus (10.0 mega pixel camera or more). We require
samples to assess the quality of files. Shoot in RAW only. Supply both the converted TIFF & original
RAW files on a CD or DVD as in our delivery specs (outlined below)."

So, they don't want you to resize but they want 50MB file and the camera can be 10 mega pixels +, so how can you get a 50MB file without interpolating from a 10 mega pixel file? My 5D does not produce 50MB files and it is 12.8 mega pixels.
Also, they want your RAW files, I wonder why and I am not sure I want to send them that.

Hi everyone - new guy here. I just wanted to pass on that I checked the contributor agreement for PhotoLibrary and contrary to what was mentioned earlier in the thread they are image exlusive for five years. Another thing that might be interesing to some is they still accept slides. They even do the scanning in house at no charge.

They want to do the upsizing (and possibly color-correcting) in-house, unlike Alamy, which wants you to upsample (to 48MB) yourself, before submission.

Since they will have to end up posting a 50MB file, they want to start with a file of a certain minimum size, in this case, 10MP, or about 3888 x 2592 pixels = 28.9MB (uncompressed RGB TIFF).

Alamy's suggested minimum starting size is 6MP, so they must be a little more tolerant of upsampling errors.

Hey idnic, any news yet the agencies?
I want to send some pictures to Jupiter, but can't decide what to send them. I don't want them to reject me bacause of the content. Anyone know what they would be glad to see?

PL sent a polite "Not right now, but thanks". Haven't heard back from Jupiter yet.

I sent in an application for Jupiter with link to my betterphoto gallery and I have never heard back from them. This was MONTHS ago.
I gave up on them and went for Alamy instead.

well the application says to send them jpgs via email and they will only consider complete applications, so perhaps you didn't do what they requested
