I was reminiscing while recently doing some clean up of old photos and ran across this one of my Dad. He just got his new enlarger and was starting to get into photography in a big way (turning the enclosed back porch of our Chicago apartment into his darkroom). While never intending to go professional and only embracing photography as a hobby, he wound up creating some outstanding B&W portraits and memories of our family and friends that to this day are admired by others and adorn the household walls of those he took pictures of. Here’s Dad with is new enlarger as well as a few of his shots (although admittedly not his best – he’s still holding onto the good ones, so I couldn’t scan them!).
Thanks Dad for being my inspiration and sharing with me your passion for photography!!
DPC - now it’s your turn to share – who/what inspired you to pick up this profession/hobby? What started your passion for photography?

my insperation doesn't come from someone or thing directly. Basicly life just speaks to me, and I create from what it says. Could be inspired from anything that calls to me.

I was about 10 years old ...on a family outing and I told my sister (then 5 yrs old) to hold food for the deer through the fence so I could get her and the deer in 1 shot. It was an instamatic camera and when the film came back...EVERYONE praised my photos. I studied art in college, graduated, teach school...bla bla bla - but not until I found out DAD was a school yearbook photographer in the 50's did I realize it just might be in my blood. Genealogy... Who knew? |

Glad you gave the post a bump...It's a sweet sentiment to your father. |
