Can I use one RAW file to generate multiple exposures to be ultimately used in Photoshop's "Merge to HDR" feature?

When I do this with three exposures (three conversions of the same image), I consistently get a message that says something to the effect of not enough dynamic range found.

Ooh, I would like to know this as well...

No, you cannot. I can't remember where I found it, but it was specifically stated in a help file somewhere that you *must* use multiple *seperate* photographs. Which, of course, means shooting using a tripod or other non-moving surface. (and trust me, shooting in bracketing mode hand-held is *not* steady enough ;))

You can open the one RAW file in Photomatix and then tone-map the file. Not as good as using multiple exposures, but an increase in DR, nonetheless.

I've had reasonable results using bracketed shots hand-held. Just make sure to check the 'Align' box before compilation of the HDR image.

You need to remove the EXIF info...that is what is stopping the HDR programme.

Obvious next question: And how is this done?

Try Saving For Web...if the image is too big...sometimes Saving the image a few times tends to wipe the info.

I work with 16-bit TIFF images as long as possible before I "save to web".

How does one remove EXIF from a TIFF file?

The Opanda utility (at least their trial version) won't allow such a file to be opened.

I get the same message, even when I DO use separate exporsures :/

From what I have tried to do with CS2, I use save for the web, I have tried with 10.2 megapixel images without resizing and when it tells me that the file is too big, I ignore it and do it anyway since my computer seem to handle it. If you wanted to try this for a challenge or practice, you could resize it smaller then save for the web since its not for a print. When I open from raw at different exposure values and save for the web, I make sure to save it some of order so that when I see the files in Merge to HDR and have to maually set the exposures I know the order. For example a -4 exposure I would name 1.jpg and then -3 exposure would be 2.jpg etc... Save for web will strip exif data and if you work with tiffs, I have heard running it through neat image and saving will do it also, but I haven't tried.

Try exifer. You might not necessarily need to strip all the exif information, maybe just clear the exposure fields or change them to suitable dummy values.

Ya....just don't do that to your RAW images...especially if they are going to be used for verification of a challenge entry....'image has been modified'!!
