Assume Advanced Editing for the question I'm about to ask.
Let's say I take a photo of a field, emphasizing my main subject which is in the foreground and (mid-ground, too). In the background there are a couple of distant trash containers (cans, bins, but not dumpsters). They appear relatively small in comparison to the main subject.
Can they be cloned out of the image? |

In advanced editing, I'd say yes. But best to ask SC if you're worried about them being a "major element".

I say yes. But it really doesn't matter what I say. If you question it I would say send the original to SC and get pre approval.

I can do that? Send it in for "pre-approval"?
BTW, does that imply the the SC folks don't vote in challenges?

Yes, yoiu can submit a ticket under Help>About in the General Inqiry category, and attach resized original and edited shots (or refer to the entry and we'll find the edited version).

Nope, it does not. I vote 100% in pretty much every challenge, but I don't let the fact that i may have knowledge of photog or editing steps bias me. |

Excellent! I just submitted my question to the SC, along with the image.
Thanks all!

I did notice after I uploaded my entry to the "AA Contest there was a place for me to go ahead and upload an original with the editing steps in case you are out of town or just if you think it will be questioned.

Unless things have changed, you don't really get pre-approved. What you get are the opinions of one or two of the SC if something is legal or not. In theory you could get this opinion and still get DQ by the majority...

That's right -- the opinion(s) you get via the ticket system are informal and non-binding. |

Non-binding, and informal, yes, but In the vast majority of cases the opinion will be correct. We try to get a consensus before responding, though that's not always possible. For greatest accuracy, be sure to submit this type of request allowing at two days for consideration. |
