I never guessed 4 years ago that I'd be here today, but a little at a time and you can get what you want! This is a shot of 1/2 of my studio, the working end as it were.
Investment - untotaled
Value - Priceless

:)

So you have three Alien Bees? What size are they? What would you do differently if you purchased lights all over again?

I have 2 AB 400s (both on the left in that image) and one AB800 (sporting the softbox). I'm finding more and more lately that I need 2 bg lights for even coverage, so if I did it over I would buy 4 AB400s. The AB800 is too powerful for that space anyway, I never use it at full power.
Now if I were traveling on location with them, I would go for 800s so I could light ANY space, but my little studio only needs 400s.

Have children yet? If so, you need them for family portraits and such. Don't want bad lighting to ruin Jr's photos :-) If not, GET BUSY! :-)

Our first is due in May! That is how I was able to convince her to spring for the camera.

I am working on this. Maybe you can help if I don't have them by the time I come through your town.

I'm great with the wives.....

"Well you can't have your baby shot in bad light, can you? Oh that would be awful. Did you see the shots Sally got of her kid??"

Pricewise I think it is best to go with Alienbees after listening to you talk and the pm's we have shared about this.

I have explored buying more flashes but I think it is best to just buy the 400s.

But when I do make it down there remind me and I will model for you one time.

Does the DigiBee kit come with a cable to plug into my camera or do these lights just stay on all the time?

They come with a sync cord that you would plug into your camera. You only plug ONE in, the others fire off the radio signal of that one. If you order a-la-cart, the cable is $7.

I'm not sure (likely not) that the Rebel XTi has a PC connector, so you would need a Hotshoe to PC adapter.

Oh good point - I don't know if that model has PC connection or not. I assumed it would. If not, the adapter is $5 ish on ebay

Can anyone send me a couple before and after lighting shots? They would help convince her. Especially if they are cute shots of children.

My biggest wish - Alien Bees, that operate on Australian voltage...240V. I think they used to make them, but discontinued that. Am I right?

Just get a good voltage convertor (or whatever name it has in english), talk to your local electrical supplier.
