I realize this isn't a photography question but I know I can reach a wide audience here.
My wife just had an ultrasound and we received a DVD recording of it. The entire DVD is over 10 minutes long. I am looking for a way to capture about 10 seconds of video to post on our family website. I have tried CamStudio which is great for recording your computer screen but it will not record the DVD. Everything shows up black. I have heard that this is due to the way the computer processes DVDs. Can anyone suggest a solution to this? I would prefer to do this with software and not new hardware. |

Someone mentioned a software here a few days ago that converts DVD to MPEG and AVI. If you can do that then you'll be able to capture it using your regular software. Search the forums. |

I had posted the same question a while back (linked previously)... I had the best luck by using DVD Shrink 3.2 to rip the DVD, then I used AutoGK to convert it to AVI (from which I could easily convert it to WMV, or whatever). |

what format is the video on the dvd? if it is a video file that you can play on your dvd player, then regular dvd conversion stuff (as mentioned by other posters) will work well. (this is probably the case)
however, if it is a disc that you play on your computer using a player embedded on the disc, then it is probably in dicom format (dicom is the raw data format that is used in nearly all medical imaging). if this is the case, then let me know if you are on mac or pc... there is plenty of good software out there for converting dicom data into other formats. |

It is a regular DVD format. It was made by a DVD Recorder. |

I already had DVD Skrink so using that to back-up the DVD was easy. I am trying now to use AutoGK but am not sure what is going on. It has been saying "Analyzing source" for 18 minutes now and the DVD isn't even that long. There is no progress bar and no notification as to wether or not it is doing anything. I looked in the Task Manager and see that nothing is using processing speed right now. |

Okay, I think I have it figured out. There was one last button I didn't click durring the installation that would launch VirtualDubMod. That was causing it to lock up. I clicked that and then restarted the whole process. It seems to be working now... |

Okay, I got it converted to AVI but CamStudio still isn't picking it up. I can see the media player and see the progress bar move but the viewing area is still black. Does anyone have any other ideas? |
