I purchased Noise Ninja yesterday. In the tabbed interface, the second tab, it has a slider for "USM". Is it that NN both works on noise and sharpens at the same time?

I use Neat Image, so can't be sure. I do know that removing noise also decreases sharpness, so maybe it does give you a little help there. I would recommend using Photoshop for USM though.

Hi Ursula, sorry for being a little OT and wish I could answer your question but I just wanted to know if you could give me any thoughts on NN? Im thinking of either picking up NN or the Neat Image one but I refuse to give the makers of NI just to DL and try their demo... I have the demo of NN but only have like 5 min on it thus why Im asking...

I don't think I can give you any good thought out thoughts, since I just got it yesterday. On first impression, the "auto" analyze works quite well. Also, it seems to have enough freedom to adjust so that a person could get as little or as much noise reduction as is needed (or wanted).

I'm not very fond of noise reduction, but I figured it is good to have a tool for it, so I went ahead and got it.

The only reason I got NN instead of NeatImage is that my daughter told me she liked Noise Ninja (plus I like the name better).

I think you'll quickly become very fond of noise reduction. Probably you just don't like its abuse.

Very much so. That is the reason I didn't get one of those tools before.

yep, that's for sharpening.

I like Noise Ninja as well (I mainly use it as a built in part of Bibble).

Overall I'm with you that I hate noise reduction software but when applied gently it can be useful.

So, if you have a sharpening option in NN, do you use it? Do you not sharpen in PS? I guess you use Bibble, so that's different. Or, do you not use it and continue to sharpen as needed in PS?

FWIW, the sharpening option in NI doesn't work nearly as well as doing the same in PS.

Ah, OK, so it probably is best to set the sliders to "0" and continue sharpening as I was before. Thanks!

Yea, in general I wouldn't use the sharpening in NN. Sometimes I do a little on very noisy images because it does an ok job of sharpening without enhancing the noise again. In my experience I've found that when I sharpen in PS or Bibble after reducing the noise those programs can bring back with their sharpening.

It's kind of an either or situation though, I wouldn't recommend sharpening with more than one program.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

Yes, you can sharpen in Noise Ninja, but I recamend doing so in PS.

Noise Ninja sharpening, to me, looks plastic.

Thank you, American! I always wanted to say that :)
