Thank you!

It's an interesting start. Your image has gone too far in evening out the lighting, though, and the colors are "forced" to an unnatural level of saturation.

Is it enough to back off on the saturation in PS? Or should I do it in Photomatix?

Try doing a new tone mapping that's less aggressive on the luminance, uses more light smoothing, and set a lower color saturation and a higher black point.

Is there a way to do tone mapping or HDR without CS2? I have PS6.

Photomatix

Right. I have PS7 and have to use Photomatix. Some say it does a better job than CS2 anyway.

I have the PhotomatixPro v. 2.3.2 and so far, I've found that it can generate a considerable amount of noise where the shadows are/were. Easy enough to hide in a web-sized image, but print-sized, it's not real pretty. Still learning what works and doesn't and is a fun tool.

Thank you, I will try that. I am still unsure as to exactly what each control does in Photomatix and how they affect each other.

3rd times a charm?

This looks more natural to me but seems slightly dark?

It is the vignetting at the top that bothers me but the 10-22mm does that at 10mm

looks great!!!!!!
I also have been playing around with HDR images for the past few weeks I created 11 of them yesterday.

HDR images are fun to play around with, I find that it only works or looks good with certain images though.

You image looks great keep playing around and create some more.

Hey, thanks!

You are right about HDR only looking good for certain images. I love playing around with it though! I breathes new life into images I thought were lousy.

You can control this with light smoothing and contrast smoothing. I've found it's not as problem unless you are going for the "extreme HDR" look. My current "Winter Sunset" shows no evidence of it, for example. It's much more of a problem in tone mapping from a single image, less so in working from several variations of the same RAW, and MUCH less of a problem with differently exposed captures, which have full tonal value in all areas basically.
