Today my sister, friend, and I ventured off to the city of San Francisco for a day full of fun and what I hoped to be many photo ops! On the way there, I asked my sister to take my battery out of my camera and put it on my car battery charger. Not knowing much about cameras she took out the flash card and asked..."this"? I explained which one was the battery and she put the flash card back in the cam. Well!! well well well!! When we got to the city I saw my first opportunity for a photo and tried to take a picture but it read "Err CF" on my camera. So apparently when my sister was shoving the card back into the camera ONE... ONLY ONE... of the little delicate metal pricks that connect to the CF card got bent and does not make the connection with the card. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO there I was in San Francisco all day without a camera. It was such a weird feeling. I walked around all day with my imaginary camera taking "pictures"! I was having serious withdrawls and getting a bit shaky.. lemme tell ya. Hopefully I can get it fixed tomorrow!!

Has that ever happened to anyone?

EDIT: YAYYYYYYYYYY MY DAD JUST FIXED IT :) DADDY TO THE RESCUE :) :) :) Phewwwwwwwww!

*hug*

:((

I hear of this happening often and am just waiting my turn.
If you want, you can bring it by the shop and I can see if I have any magic tricks I can pull on it. I do have some pretty small tools here that could be right at home in a watch repair shop. Fixin' stuff is what I do best ya' know.

I just tested a pair of needle-nose pliers on my XT, and I can grab individual pins with it - they are that small. You are more than welcome to stop by. In all actuality, there is nothing I can do to make it any worse, as Canon isn't going to straighten them, the will be replacing the whole pin assembly.

Got nothing to lose....

Didn't read that you were out of town. Guess I can turn off the soft music and blow out the candles now huh?
:))

I am so sorry for this Shannon!:(

I haven't had my camera for a long time now, only a couple of months. and I didn't have any when I was living in Russia.
I had been living with my kitty for almost 20 years until she passed away last may.
I haven't taken any photos of her! none, nothing. we had been together for 20 years and no photos, just some of very bad quality with a "toy" camera and b&w film. I regret it so much, I can't even think about it.
so it happens. sheer up! I'm sure you will see San Francisco many times, hopefully cities don't pass away as often as our dear cats do

It also happened recently to DrAchoo. Apparently, those pins are very fragile and easily damaged. Unfortunately, I don't think you will get it fixed by tomorrow. Unless you have a camera repair place close by that can get it done in a day. Either way, you should probably send it to an authorized Canon repair facility. It was your 350D, right?

Life lesson # 37: Never loan money to friends or family and NEVER let them touch your gear.

Sorry to hear Shanny. Cheer up, you can always find another sister. ;-)

There's a Calumet in town. Don't know if they can fix it up fast. They also rent cameras, so it might be fun to rent a 30D or something.

That's too bad. I feel sorry for you Shannon. I can imagine how bad it would feel. :(

I think DrAchoo said it was going to cost $130 to have his 5D fixed. It's just a guess, but fixing your XT will probably cost about the same.

Just remember, sisters are harder to come by then cameras. :D

do you think photos are static? frozen?
the prosess of watching them takes time and they are "moving" in their strange way, too. in our heads. they are static but move in our heads. that's interesting.
sorry:) early at work today....)

sorry to hear about what happened.
yup, those male-female pins on a CF card is just so yesteryear...
glad the trend is now starting to shift towards other more robust memory cards.

Yeah, SD Cards are getting higher capacities and speeds now. Buy.com has a 4Gb SD Card for US$49. I don't know how fast it is, though.

you fascinate me!

and Shannylee13 - I went to school in SF for photography and almost got beat up one day while changing film one the street. This huge behemoth of a man walked up to me an got up in my face and asked if I'm ready for "the race war"!? Fortunately I was in the photography zone and had no idea what he was talking about and after a few repetitions of his question he realized I was just a clueless kid on the street trying to take pictures of churches and such. SF has some amazing architecture and some uhh... interesting people. Sorry you missed out :(

6 am? People get up at 6:00 in the morning?

If I did that, I'd bend my pins for sure. :)
