Well, I'd be disappointed too if I couldn't ribbon by picking my best shot in three years...

I'm actually questioning whether or not that was actually her photo to begin with ... I know that there are quite a few talented young uns out there ... but her profile claims that she's only 16 ... woulda been 14 when that shot was taken ... if it really is her photograph then she has some amazing talent and I'd love to see more of her recent work ... |

People see all the leaves on the ground and assume they must be brown, dead leaves, which have a strong red component.

I was always under the assumption that it would work to have a blue dress, desaturate everything but blues, then change the hue to red. *shrug* |

That works too. I'd thought of that myself.

Maybe someone needs to walk me through this because when I attempt it (and I have tried it), I always tend to get pixelation in the color rather than some pretty shade of a color. I use hue/saturation. Should I be using something else?

And Neat Image. You profile a spot in your pixelation. It will tell you the profile quality is pitifully low, but then it will only apply the NI to the portions with that particular noise profile and leave the rest of the image alone. I used a fair bit of every color-shifting tool available to me in this photo and NI is what smoothed out the green background that wasn't actually green in real life:

So would this be basic legal still? SInce your not applying it to the whole image? Or is it applied to the whole image just selectiveley by NI to that profile?

Applied to the whole image, but NI ignores the rest of the photo since it doesn't have the noise signature it's looking for.

Don't take it too personally. A lot of folks here have seen it too often that someone new comes in, places surprisingly high for a first challenge, and then later gets DQ'd for this or that. I wish people weren't so jaded and distrustful about the whole thing, but they are. Stick around and people will get to know you a bit more and loosen up and you'll learn a whole heck of a lot - when I joined in April, the technical aspects of this debate would have made my head spin. ;-)

Hey everybody gets one huh?
Go forth and sin no more but as an aside, welcome to DPC. :-P
It takes awhile but you gotta grow a thick skin. On the rules, learn them, know them, live them ...
Glad your here hope your Pink Floyd entry does well.

I'm afraid entering a shot 3 years old processed using advanced rules in a basic challenge is going to be a bit hard for me to get over.
Not to say it can't be done, but it wasn't a good start.

Sure we can give you a break, welcome to DPC but can you explain the EXIF data which comes from your photo with a date from 2004 and from a camera you dont have in your profile? BTW its a lovely photo I just cant help but not get past that the photo wasnt taken with your camera or even this year. We all make mistakes its how we deal with them that counts in a community.

A break is fair enough. Please keep in mind that many people here are passionate about photography and DPC. We've seen many cheaters recently and tolerance is very low. But I think most will give the benefit of the doubt and a second chance. Now go back and read again what Ursula said!

Hey, Julia.....of course! I'm not one to hang anyone at all. I'm really trying to learn myself and I'm 50 years old! *smile* Kitta, the 9 year old entrant (I hope I've spelled her name right) really blows me away! Her work outshines mine by far and I'm already feeling really inadequate in here by comparison to so many others's work in here! *smile*
What I think that everyone would have felt better with would have been had you simply admitted that you "screwed up" and let it go at that. It's the "covering up" that I think got people going.
Go forth and take more photos and enter and learn with the rest of us. Had your photo been done legally.....it would have still won the place that it did. It rocked. You have real talent. Why cheat with that kind of talent? These challenges are FUN! There's no real reward from it but, personal rewards. So, bite the bullet on this one, you've taken your "whacks" for it already *wink* NOW.....get your rear out there and take more photos, paying attention to the rules so that your very lovely work is not DQ'd next time.
We all live, make mistakes and learn from them. NO ONE in here is above mistakes, no matter how good they are at what they do!!! |
