Is taking a single picture converting it from raw to tiff in RawShooters essentials then loaded in Photomatrix as a single picture from a single file and then apply tonal mapping legal in basic editing?
Side question is HDR from one raw file then in photomatrix create five to seven exposures for HDR legal in basic editing?

In the first case, yes, it is legal. As with any process, be prepared to give details if proof is requested.
In the second case, where multiple processing of a single RAW file is involved, no. But factually, there is *no* advantage to the latter method. The best workflow is actually to open the RAW file directly in Photomatix, since it will handle the RAW format of many cameras (I know it handles the 5D, for instance). |

So - single file / single exposure tone mapping is ok.
but
Single file / multiple exposures HDR is illegal.
Do I have it right?
Thanks for you reply

Right, for Advanced challenges, both are legal as long as they originate from a single file. |

OK, so I'm confused.
If I take a single jpg file, then using photoshop create 3 different exposure levels (-1, 0, +1) then load those 3 files into Photomatrix to create an HDR file, then tone image that file to produce a single file, IS THAT LEGAL IN BASIC? Am I correct that it is essentially the same as converting from a Raw file?
Thanks for any light shed on this.

No. You not allowed to process a single file (RAW or jpg) multiple times to combine it into a single exposure in basic. |

Thanks, Louis. It was worth a shot! |
