my picture has been asked for proof of validation.

Have you tried recovering the original from your memory card? It may be possible to recover the file, even after you delete it or format the card.

Unless you've used the card again, there is a chance of recovering the photos.

Just remember to save your originals away from the folders in which you usually put your edited work. I always dump all my originals in one folder, and then organise them again into different folders, so I always have two copies of my originals on my HDD.

I have sandisk rescue pro, it came with one of my cf cards, it does work but I think it will bring them back in a different format, for instance if you shot in raw it will recover them in tiff. good luck and in the future, never edit your original.

If you haven't formatted the card, then you should still be able to see the files with whatever software you normally use to transfer photos from your card/camera. In that case, just transfer them to your computer again.

If you deleted the files or formatted the card, then you'll need to use recovery software to recover the files. Did your memory card come with any software? The Sandisk CF cards that I buy come with a little mini-CD with recovery software. If your card didn't come with recovery software, then you'll have to get it yourself. There are lots of different ones available. Some are retail products, some are shareware, and some are free. A google search for "digital recovery software" should find lots of them.

PC Inspector works...I lost a set of photos from vacation. I had formatted my CF card several times and was still able to retrieve it!

There may be a free version but I bought mine and it was like $30 or so bucks.

Don't be too hard on yourself. People often get DQ'd on their first challenge. There are a lot of rules to know, some of them kind of technical. You still have a fantastic photo.
