You know, I was just voting on the Home Sweet Home challenge, and although I had noticed before, it really hit me how people manage to submit pictures of their cats and dogs in every challange and most of the time I dont even see how they fit the challenge. I understand that people love their pets, but dont you think it's time we give them a rest and photograph something else?

If it were the same people, photographing the same pets, for like 10 challenges in a row, I might tend to agree. But while you may get tired of looking at the cat and dogs, this may be very first time that particular animal has shown up in a challenge. :-)
As far as the Home Sweet Home challenge, though, I can very much see how that would fit into the challenge. But then, I'm jsut weird like that.

Well, I don't see the problem in taking pictures of the favorite thing in your home. YOu may take a picture of your kitchen or the outside of your house, but to a lot of people, their home is where their heart is.
If their hearts belong to their pets, then so be it.

Like what? Flowers and kids?
Cats and dogs are a huge part of home sweet home for a lot of people, I didn't submit in this one, but if I did it might have been of my cats or dog or kids or maybe even some flowers!
This has been discussed a million times before, lets give it a rest and let people submit what they want to. |

I'm normally cynical about cats and dogs in challenges, but they all fit
the bill this time, IMO. If ever a challenge could encompass pets and
macro flowers, Home Sweet Home surely is it? |

I didnt mean to offend anybody. All I'm saying is that people submit pics of their pets even when they're not even close to meeting the challenge and its not just the home sweet home challenge. It just makes is harder to vote.

First of all I don't even own a pet. But I don't think the rules say anything about what we can photograph so as long as it meets the challenge. I don't think any of us can tell others what they can photograph for challenges. I'm sure we all see things we don't want to see, That's because we all like different things. We should treat others the way we want to be treated. all this complaining is not helpful

Hey General, what about Sun DeSet?
(Disclaimor: my tongue is in my cheek. I, for one, have no problem with the so-called "cliche" list.)

Of course...I wasn't intending a comprehensive list...
In case it was unclear, the goal would be to submit a photo within the stated genre for every challenge...

Being one who for the first time crossed this line in this challenge, I would just have to say it comes down to whether the photo communicated a sense of home. My picture kinda sucked (a last-hour inspiration that was hastely shot), but I think it a least communicated a sense of home, or what home is. Some of the pet pics were just the pet, with no real context of home, but at least if it felt like a home environment, I gave some leniency. The pics that bugged me this challenge were those of places noone lives, least of all the photographer. I don't wanna be specific and poison the well, so to speak, but there are a lot of shots that don't fit the "photograph the place you call home" restriction in any way, shape or form. (And, I'm not saying it has to be your house.) |
