Ay.
So I have had my Camera [Canon Powershot SD500] for less than 6 months.
I have had the dreaded "E18" [lense malfunction] error code come up before, and I had it looked at and fixed. However, it has happened once again. Before when it happened, I could use the zoom button to focus the lense back out, if it wouldn't retract. Now, it acts as though it isn't on the track AT ALLL!
AYYY. It is soo frustrating.
It doesn't help that in trying to fix it myself, this ring around the lens came off, and a spring fell out, which normally closes the lens protectors.
I've tried like, alll of the online solutions, and NOTHING has worked.
I fear I will have to take it to get repaired, yet everyone I've read about said it is very costly, and Canon isn't helpful [and won't own up to their lens malfunction].
Also, that isn't really much of an option. The serial code sticker peeled off one day in my car, so I put it in a console. However... I had to take my car to get repaired a few weeks ago, and they cleaned it out.
Including my serial code sticker!
AYyyyyy.
suchhhh bad luck.
any suggestions? |

I had a friend who this happened to recently on a similar camera. And NO one would help them, even with proper documentation and ownership of even less time. So honestly, I have no advice, just understanding.
Unless you use this opportunity to ask for a D-SLR for Christmas that way you don't have to worry about small malfunctioning parts...

I have, it isn't going to happen though.
Just too expensive, which I understand, so whatever.
:sigh: |

I am in the same train as you... this week my camera stop reading the memory cards... I wouldnt be so sad if it werent for the facts that:
-Repair takes at least two weeks, and I am traveling to Israel next week, so I will not have a camera (well, at least my favorite)
-I bought the camera online, and the people who sold it to me have not responded.
-The guaranty sheet is empty (yep, no stamp, no nothing to validate it)and I lost the receipt :D
-And it seems that the fix witout the guaranty may cost me a third of the price I payed for the camera, that actually, was over priced here in Mexico... (So after just 4 months using it I would have paid for a Rebel XT, the same that cost the upgraded version, a new lens and a good flash...)
Wanna go assault a canon shop? ;)
