Please look carefully at the images in this challenge, re the overall effect of the sale value of the image, re an advertisment, as I can see quite a lot of images here doing that.
It is a "For Sale" challenge, so having an image that would make a great advertsment, is a great way to go.
Not many entries, but some very good ones, thats for sure.

I agree, but would like to add that, imo, there are also very good shots that aren't necessarily advertising material.

I had a nice score for a while...but it's dropping slowly. Dropped .3 since this morning, and in the last 3 hours it's just been teetering on the brink of making it a .4 drop :(

Well yes but...

Supermarkets, malls, convenience marts, farmers markets, flea markets, garage sales: all around us there is stuff for sale and places to sell it. This week, focus on creatively capturing an image of someplace where you can buy stuff or something that is for sale.

That's weird. I'm down about 3 tenths of a point too since the morning. I'm a bit surprised my image is doing as well as it has so far...

Thanks mpeters. Hey DIVIAN, is the X some sort of glitch, or are you just intentional hiding that first number? My score has dropped a tad. Serves me right for posting it.
12/14/2006 04:14:30 AM · #44
I usually interpret heavenly as "7". Looks like Divian has a good score going. Methinks he is holding out on us ;)
12/14/2006 04:24:05 AM · #45
I'd be really surprised if there were a 7.anything in this one. Quite frankly, this has been a disappointing challenge and I didn't see any 7s there.
12/14/2006 05:03:40 AM · #46
hehehe, just being conspicuous and supersticious, not a seven by any means, relax:). Finally, I enter what seems to be a decent shot for many and the challenge is not that decent after all:( . Is this good or bad? at least I will be in top 100 for sure now...hehe... I am glad not to see tacky landscapes, sunsets and flowers in this challenge, anyway. Is this why many of you say it is not a good challenge? It would be terrible. i hope u only reffered to the actual quality of the shots. U might b right then. Otherwise... "WHAT?? NO SUNSET? NO BEAUTIFUL COLOURS??? oh...dissapointing challenge, indeed!!".

Just being sarcastic, dont take it too seriously...

I have to say that this is absolutely not the way I interpreted the challenge description:

"Supermarkets, malls, convenience marts, farmers markets, flea markets, garage sales: all around us there is stuff for sale and places to sell it. This week, focus on creatively capturing an image of someplace where you can buy stuff or something that is for sale."

To me, this means it's more about the place than about the product - but others might of course see it differently...

Personally - when I suggested this challenge what I had in mind was what quite a few of the photographers in this challenge gave me. Had the pert portrait challenge not come up at the same time I would have been in this one all the way. Hopefully Langdon will do a "For Sale II" sometime next spring/summer when there are more outside venues available to shoot from.

Nah, I don't miss the sunsets and colors either. Mine isn't a sunset. I just think that the image quality is particularly low in this one. That is the source of disappointment for me.

When I saw this challenge, I though the intent was to capture either the feeling a place that sells stuff evokes or the culture that it represents. Farmers markets and street side venues and indoor shopping stores all capture something of that idea to my mind.

Okay, so DIVIAN has an 8. Great. I love the no sunset interpretation. Hilarious.
