Wait till after Christmas when the price of the 5D drops and then enjoy seeing the Canon people squirm. ;-) What goes around comes around.

i'm going to go now and play with the $200 scanner i have still barely touched.

Hehe don't complain until you start buying $300 rotary trimmers and $30 sand bags (and those were my small purchases). I'm getting numb to the prices.

Huge consideration going from the D80 to the D200 is that you get metering with manual lenses.

Good idea - message sent to B&H, I'll update as they update ... just in case anyone else is in the same situation.

well, hell. if you make them make it more expensive before i get one i'm going to be sad.

I think what they have there is a failure to communicate.

---

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated into the D200 fold!

I would call them direct and talk to supervisor. Much easier to get some action talking direct where you can thrust and parry back and forth in real time!

BTW - mine just shipped at $1,299

Good idea, I'll jingle tomorrow.

D200.

D. 200.

DEEEEEEEEeeeee. Twwwwoooooo. Huuuuunnnnddreeeeeedddddd.

It calls, the lyrical sound of a once-unreachable mistress crying "Come hither my love, come to me now!" You must answer the call. Resistance is futile.

When I tried to use the 'psnov' code for making a purchase over the phone, I got interrogated: "where did you get that code, sir?" To which I could not produce a satisfactory answer. Those codes are not for the masses: B&H does not advertise them even in their periodic e-flyers, nor in the catalogue. They only give codes like this out at professional trade fairs, as far as I know.

The code can be used to purchase online just fine, though. I have saved myself quite a few bucks on my recent order.

The price for the D200 is very tempting. For me, though, I would like to buy the Nikon 85/1.4 before I upgrade my camera. Lenses are much more important to me; so, I'm guessing, I'll be upgrading to the D200's successor.

Then I'll stay in e-comm for a day or two more. :)

The code issue is correct. I ordered mine on-line. But you still have the arguement that they lowered there standard on-line price to $1350. I don't know why they would not honor it as they want to keep good customers and it looks like you do a fair amount of buying from them. Either way good luck.

Update:

They gave me a $150 refund. Since I ordered a kit they couldn't match the psnov price which is for the camera alone; my 'kit' was the cam with the 4gb card - damn card!!! I was content with what I originally paid so this is extra denero for me.

Anyway, free $150 = party at JP's. Margaritas, hot tub, sauna party :)

I will always always deal with B&H, they treat their customers right. Actually, even if they had said no way I would still deal with them, they are honest and I know what I'm getting - the refund is more of a holiday treat than anything else :)

And they know in the next month I'll spend more than that with them :)

ETA
Rob, please tell us *your* D200 purchasing story!

It's coming right after mine is delivered. LOL. I was so excited to see that it was shipped just hours after the order and scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Then, I checked again the next morning. It had been rescheduled for Monday. It's going to be a long weekend.

uh...didn't get the paying gig, and DID get the credit card bill today.

i'm going to have to wait until the D70 dies or i fall into a pile of money. :( the good news is that i still LOVE my D70. even better news is that i read somewhere that it's rated for 30K shutter clicks and i have something like 38K. let's just say i'm not too anal about making sure the next strap is always secured. ;)

being a good boy is hard.

fwiw, if they don't like people using the "psnov" code (or any other secret code) then they should spend some $ and send out custom "secret" codes to whoever they consider a "worthy" customer.

it really ticks me off that they jack up the price for people who aren't "in the know." and i found that code on another forum so i'm not the one who leaked the information...i'm just helping spread it. :)

HEY!! everyone who saved money using the code i put in here could send me the difference and THEN i'd have enough for my own cam! let's do that!

Mine came today from the nice UPS elf - WOO-HOO!!! Santa says I have to wait till Christmas to play with it and has actually hidden it somewhere :-(

BTW, I got mine from Adorama, $1339 without any sort of coupon fun. The only concern I had in the whole process is UPS dropping it off without asking for my signature when it was clearly asked for. Glad they found the right address but, geez, that was careless.

Has anyone used the "psnov" b&H code to order online? Did they give you any trouble about it? I'm probably going to order a D200 today and would like to save that extra $50.

Thanks

$1278 at amazon.com

To answer my own question, no trouble at all.
