I like that but I'm stuggling to get it. How far down do you put the gradient?

I put the center point (50% point) of the gradient just below the horizon, and the width of the gradient was about 1/4 of the picture height.

Thanks Kirbic

I can do alot of stuff in photoshop but clearly I have a way to go. I'm going to study up on gradient selections and USM contrast and try again later.

Hi Tim,

I'm by no means a 'guru' but, I gave it a quick shot.

No "guru" either...though I think there might be one on top of that pointy mountain. :)

Or just go nuts and do this:

Edit to add:
Did some serious levels adjustments and heavy-handed Shadow/Highlight adjutment, then did two gradients, first for the orange to transparant, erasing above the level where I was to add the blue gradient, flatteneing, then applying the blue gradient downward, fading with eraser tool to blend, then flattening the layers. Did some selective curves in upper & lower sections separately and reduced noise with CS2.

why would you leave the editing of a picture up to someone else?
is it because you don't have PS skills or because you don't know how to enhance this photo?

I can't speak for him personally, but I think many people like to see what others would do to thier photos to improve them. It's nice to see which steps the others would take and learn from them.

That, and some of us just love to mess with other people's photos :-)

Part of the learning experince of this site is looking at what others might do with a shot, and learning from the different "takes" on it and how they were accomplished.

You take the picture. You have the experience of the scene in your subconscious and when it comes down to editing, it is far more difficult to get out of the box and think without the constraints that are buried in your subconscious from being there.
Well, it sounds good anyway.

Oh, and it's fun and a great way to learn yourself, as well as others picking up something in the process.

Netbandit's edit deserves showing rather than linking. Nice edit.

I struggled to get the photo exceptable. I do plenty of photoshop work. I dont want to be a photoshop expert, however I do want to be able to make my photos look their best. Maybe that means I need to be a photoshop expert sometimes. My photoshop skills have and will improve because of the responses in this thread.

That is an awsome edit! Its funny you added lightning to this photo because this is the same mountain(from a diferant direction) as this photo. //timferrell.com/WordPress/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/allinonewebws.jpg
