This is a hard time of the year for me with photography. The sky is grey most days, it rains many of them. It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home. My camera is in the shop. It all leaves me with very few hours where I can shoot and expect to get anything decent. The challenges have been hard to do studio work on, plus I like to be outside anyway.
Sigh...
Just venting.

I can relate. In Germany, this time of year, it's dark until nearly 8:30 in the morning and gets dark again by about 4 pm. I'm at work that whole time, too. And it's almost always overcast so even when I can get out on the weekends I'm still shooting at 200 ISO or better. But I gotta admit the scenery is a whole lot different than Texas!
As for studio stuff - I'm in a hotel room. Pretty sure I won't be entering the pet challenge since the lighting in here, well, sucks.
When do you get your camera back? And after the free study shot, did you also ask them to get all the blown sand and salt spray out of it?? Heckuva day to take pictures. |

Heh, I have a little trick where I take a gallon zip lock bag and make a little protective cocoon for the camera. I cut a small hole it the bottom, stick the lens barely through, and use masking tape to seal it around the lens. Then I put a filter on the lens and the hood. I then cut a small hole in the bottom of the bag to allow me to screw in the tripod attachment. The back of the camera is accessible through the ziplock portion of the bag. It works very well. You can evev make a little hole to attach the flash if you want to use that and then put a small baggie over the flash.
It was an awesome day. I love storms and I hadn't seen winds like this since a small hurricane blew over Virginia Beach (it may have been a tropical storm by then).
My car was parked in a lot between two dunes. By the time I got back the side to the wind was almost totally covered with muddy sand.
I also learned humorously that in winds like this peeing downwind is just as bad as peeing into it. Don't ask.

Well seeing as how it actually rains here in Europe (who knew?) I may have the opportunity to try the ziploc baggie trick. I may have to use it this weekend if I want to shoot, since according to the forecast, it's probably going to rain. Does mud still count as dirt?
And I promise I'll not ask, but it did make me laugh out loud... |
