I like the provision of lots of challenges to enter. I also like the split between different types of rules.
However, it is getting a bit busy in the "Challenges" section, especially since the challenges are revolving periodically on a due date basis. I think that this is a little hard to read.
Would it be easier on the eye to maintain challenges that are open for submission in permanent sections? Ie - the page would have headings under the winners' gallery listing, something like the following?
The advantage of it would be that it is easy to identify what kind of challenge is being entered, it breaks up what is becoming quite dense text, and it better permits multiple challenges (on an exclusive basis) within a category.

That sounds like a good idea, and the short text you provided in italics might avoid the regular confusion about exclusive open challenges.
Maybe the challenges of each categorie could be displayed next to each other horizontally instead of vetically?

I'd welcome anything that removes the ambiguity over the wording for the "exclusive" open challenges. |

I like the clarification statement for the OPEN challenges for the newbies, but I think, and this is just my opinion, that reorganizing the page will not clarify anything, just make the page longer. I don't see a problem with it the way it is.
For example - there is currently two categories, OPEN and MEMBER so if page reorganization happened it would only have to be into two sections - OPEN and MEMBER. As you have it there are three sections for MEMBER when there needs to be only one. So if any change, again only my opinion, was made perhaps just to the two sections and not 4.

The page is long allready indeed...
maybe set the new challenges on a row from left to right, the challenges open for voting underneath that row. that saves a lot of space. |

With another challenge ruleset, I would raise this again - the front page is hard to read quickly (too many ruleset phrases, too many member/non member phrases).
