It depends. Even macro shots can be terrible and when that's the case they won't get a good score; at least not from me :). The problem with a lot of macro shots is the DOF; which is too shallow in a lot of cases.

| I would have to agree that good macro shots do better than good "other" shot.. generaly speaking of course. :o) That has been my feeling for a few months now . |

I really like macro shots when they are done well. I love macro work. I bought a Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro lens last month so I really look forward to shooting bugs and plant life ... I'm in Eastern Canada; bugs and flowers have only been coming out in the past two weeks.

Glad to hear someone else commenting on this. I enjoy macros as much as anyone, but I think the tendancy is to try to get as narrow a DOF as possible to get that "cool" blurred background. Too often that ends up meaning part of the subject gets blurred. While that can be done to effect, a lot of times I feel it deters from the overall image. |

as a huge generalisation, macro = set-up photo = more control over elements of picture = the clean, focussed (in terms of content, not image sharpness) images that do well - in general. There are of course exceptions, but my last three entries have all been macros, and they're going to be my highest scoring shots.
They are not, however, my best shots - IMO, of course.
