My husband was the MDO (Medical Duty Officer) on board when this happened. If you can, please say a little prayer for these sailors and their families as well as the sailors on board who are traumatized by the event.

Your husband and his shipmates are in my prayers Jennifer. Sounds like the injured will be ok. These things are tough on everyone. I still remember a few incidents from my years on a Destroyer. They're in good hands though. God Bless.

I know first-hand from working in the engineering steam plants aboard ship during my 10 years in the Navy, what the dangers are and what the 6 went through, having been through it personally. Wish them a speedy recovery. Burn clinics do some pretty amazing things nowadys.

Ugh.
For any that read that, the term Fireman had nothing to do with being a firefighter. A Fireman is the 3rd paygrade up in the enlisted ranks, while learning a trade and before specialist designation in a particular job/field. That may have something to do with it also, as a Fireman is typically young, inexperienced and has only been in the service a short time. Working in the ship's steam plants/engineering spaces is a very dangerous job, even for the experienced.
My heart goes out to his family and shipmates.

Giving this a bump cause I think it's important and they deserve the attention.
