Having a hard time deciding between the two lenses. Both do 1:1 magnification and look good, the only advantage I see to the 70mm is the focusing distance is a little farther away from the subject.
What do you think, is it worth the extra $100 (probably even more Canadian)?
Thanks.

just gonna point out one thing...
the sigma 70mm is arguably the sharpest lens in the sigma lineup, the 50 isnt. I tried out the 70 the other day is feels good in your hands, but i decided on the canon 100mm macro. Another option to consider is the sigma 105mm macro if your worried about distance form subject. he 105 is cheaper then the 70mm.
ok.. maybe that was a couple of things :)

Thanks. Just curious why you went with the Canon 100mm? And on that note, why not the Sigma 105mm instead?

i went with the canon because it has USM, the sigma extends when focusing... a big minus for me. Also i plan on upgrading to a full frame sensor in the future so i liked the longer focal length.

According to PopPhoto's recent test, they seem to think it's the best lens that Sigma makes, in terms of optics (sharpness/contrast).
I'd probably go with a 70mm.
