Hi I would like to get a lens hood for my 18-55mm lens, any suggestion on that? retractable, round, petal, etc?
Thank you very much |

I dont' know if "retractable" hoods cost more, but instead of a "retractable" hood, many hoods can be simply turned around and placed backwards over the lens barrel. I do this when I'm placing my lenses in my gear bag.

I stopped doing this when I leaned against my camera bag snapping the ring that hold the lens hood onto the lens. when I'm not using a lens on my camera it gets stored that way tho. |

Man, I'm sorry that this happened.
Most every week (when I fly), I reverse my hoods and put them into my camera bag, and then put that bag into a regular backpack, then jam that backpack under the seat in front of me (on an airplane). Sometimes I cram it into an overhead bin. My hoods literally have thousands of miles on them and, luckily, no hood damage so far. <fingers crossed>

I can easily replace a hood but the ring on the tip of the lens had to be done by canon. To make matters worse it was on the 24-70L and it felt like it took forever. |
