I currently own an el cheapo Wal-Mart tripod and after some recent usage, I am looking for something better. But not too much better as I am saving for my next lens. Somewhere in the $100 range would be nice. I see that B&H has a HUGE number of tripods listed, so this is where I will reference. I currently have a pan/tilt style head and am not sure I want a ballhead. Just looking at the prices and specs, I am leaning toward
Bogen / Manfrotto: 718B Digi Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head - Supports 5.5 lb
Any suggestions or comments?

| It's a short tripod. Might not be an issue if you're not too tall. The pan/tilt is nice for stills and landscapes. Can be very frustrating if you're into photographing things that move in more than one axis. |

I read the post and spent a while searching through B&H to compare all the different models. During that time I searched for pictures of each tripod and head using Google images. I am happy to say that I too have found that I like what everyone else seems to like, the
Bogen / Manfrotto 3021BPRO with 804RC2 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head
It is twice as much as I want to spend but what the hell. B&H has it for $220 and are offering a $25 rebate. I figure I can pick up a ball head later and see how the dark side lives.
Thanks for your help. |

Better to spend more money on a tripod that does what you need, than less money on a tripod that isn't good enough for what you need. Even my lower-end Manfrotto tripod looks and feels like it will outlive me. :)
