Our very own Chris ( Alienyst) Has actually done it, and I am here to bear witness. Sort of. He married his beloved Beth this morning, near his home in the Berkshires of NW Massachusetts, at a fine French Restaurant called "The Mill on the Floss", and I was privileged to be the backup photographer when the contracted photographer failed to show.

I got up at 5 AM and drove 225 miles from Cape Cod to the Berkshires. Lovely location, lovely venue. But what an absolute BITCH of a spot to photograph a wedding in. 200+_ year old tavern with ancient beamed wood ceilings and walls, dark as a cave (a romantic cave, but still a cave) and so cramped for space that I had to shoot the ceremony with the 10-22mm WA lens! Thank God for the 5430EX speedlight with its wide angle diffuser...

The dark, beamed ceilings made it impossible to bounce the flash, I had no time (last minute thing) to find a Lumisphere, so I was forced to use direct flash from the on-camera mount. I can't even be sure how the pictures came out (Chris supplied me with a CF card and will PP the images himself), but here's a test shot experimenting with the WA lens and the lighting.

For bonus points, who can identify Chris, and tell us which one is the best man?

In any case, for some bizarre reason Chris hasn't posted any pictures yet (does he have anything more important to do than process pictures tonight?) so y'all will have to be satisfied with my straight-from-the-camera test shot until the man weighs in with some actual captures of the wedding itself.

Seriously, it was a fun road trip, a lovely venue, and Chris has landed a beautiful and personable wife in Beth. I felt privileged to be a minor part of the whole ceremony, and only hope I didn't embarrass myself (and DPC) with the output :-)

robert, despite the harsh location (photographically speaking) i'm sure the images turned out great... glad someone from DPC could help him out w/ photos...

i must say, i know how you feel, though... my second wedding was for some friends in a very dark chapel with red brick interior. too high for bounce and too dark for much else. on top of that, there was a huge stain glass window in the back (which let in too much sunlight to get WB right) and giant fluorescent lights lighting up the alter (also helping make WB a nightmare...)

first thing i said when i walked in and saw the place was "great, this is gonna suck..." (actually, my first word is unrepeatable in mixed company and was repented of later that evening...)

still... i'm sure you did great and congrats to the new couple... many happy years!

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for HDR photography (if you can get the B&G to hold still enough to take a few shots).

Congrats to the newlyweds! I hope you'll share the pictures. :-)

It's up to Chris; I gave him the CF card and I don't actually have possession of any images except this test shot...

I am glad that this place has people that are wonderful enough to help out someone at the last minute for no reason other than to help someone out. I may not have gotten married today, but I want to thank Robert and everyone else that volunteered their time to help out.

I'm honored to be a part of this place (even though I only play a bit role).

Also, congrats to the bride and groom.

You don't make this easy. No profile picture and no age given in the profile. :(
Hmmmm. Man on left has shoe toes pointing out. A dominant feature. Man on right has toes pointing in. Submissive posture. Useless clues without context.....Hmmmm. I'd guess the smaller, shorter guy on the left is Chris.

Congrats to the bride and groom. For the life of me I can't imagine why he's not PP'ed and posted those shots....

Hey Robert, that was a very very nice thing you did for Chris given the circumstances. I'm sure the photos turned out great. Congrats to Chris! Robert, I am nominating you for DPCer of the year 2006!

That is just too cool!! Nice of you to step in and make the trip, Robert - I trust Karma was NOT the flower girl.... Congrats, Chris, and hope you find time soon to post a few pictures!

Hey, I appreciate the kind words but don't make this about me, please. Not a week passes in DPCland without some kind act or another highlighting the community's sense of involvement with each other. I got a nice drive to a very pretty corner of the state out of it :-)

But Chris... He's MARRIED! After 22 years of bachelorhood, I believe he said :-) To a very nice lady. And he had a lovely bunch of friends. It was a pleasure all around :-)

NOW, where the heck are the PICTURES, Chris?

I sent a CD with all of his pictures to Robert - he should have it by now. This weekend I should have time to work on a few at least, but we still have a lot of work to do with moving and getting a house ready to be sold.

Robert was magnificent Sunday! Disappointed he didn't stay longer - at least to eat - but his presence was appreciated and he snapped some of the most perfect pictures. Granted, it was a hard venue for photos and we seemed to have a problem looking in the right direction, lots of goofy expressions and such, but none of that is Robert's fault. He did a superb job under less than optimal conditions - Thank You Robert!

It's a trick question! Neither of them looks like a gray box, and since that's his profile picture, that MUST be what he looks likes, so neither of them is Chris. Right? What did I win?

Congrats, Chris! I'm 13 years in and counting, and it's still so much fun. :)

Congratulations, and I echo the applause for Bear doing such a great deed...I read your original thread, and crossed my fingers for you....

This is such a great community....it seems all one has to do is ask and if at all possible people tend to trip over themselves to help/advise.

Most importantly, congrats on the wedding.
